The Toyota Corolla hatchback is back for the 2026 model year, and it features a special trim celebrating the classic FX16.
According to a press release from Toyota, the new FX Edition adds several touches inspired by the 80s hot hatch. This includes 18-inch gloss white-finished alloy wheels with black lug nuts and a black-vented sport wing.

The Corolla FX Edition also features a special badge hearkening back to the FX16. The interior, now standard with wireless charging, features black Sport Touring Seats with suede inserts and orange stitching. The steering wheel, shifter boot, and door panels also feature this orange stitching.
The Corolla FX16 turned heads in the 1980s, both with its design and due to the fun it produced. This California-produced hatchback featured a 1.6-liter, fuel-injected four-cylinder engine producing 108 horsepower at 6,600 rpm. It had a five-speed manual transmission with close-ratio gears to take advantage of the sporty engine.
Toyota says that it will only assemble 1,600 Corolla FX Edition hatchbacks for the 2026 model year. The special edition starts at $26,780. This does not include the dealer processing and handling fee of $1,195.
The FX Edition builds on the Corolla SE

The FX Edition is one of three grades available for the 2026 Corolla hatchback. It slots in the middle as it builds upon the base SE grade, which starts at $24,180. The top-of-the-line XSE adds all of the options and boosts the price to $27,175.
All three grades feature the same powertrain. This 2.0-liter Dynamic-Force direct-injection inline four-cylinder delivers 169 horsepower at 6,600 rpm. Toyota says it produces 151 lb.-ft. peak torque at 4,800 rpm while delivering up to 35 mpg combined.
All trims of the Corolla hatchback come with paddle shifters and a tuned MacPherson strut front suspension. The goal is to provide a sportier driving experience that matches the “rounded, muscular physique.”
Each Corolla has Normal, Sport, and Eco drive modes available.
Those who want to customize their Corolla hatchback have access to multiple exterior options. The list of available colors includes Blue Crush Metallic, Inferno, Midnight Black Metallic, Classic Silver Metallic, Finish Line Red, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Wind Chill Pearl, and Ice Cap.
They can also opt for two-tone color combinations featuring a Midnight Black Metallic roof.
