Toyota has unveiled the 2025 model year of the Prius, which features a new exclusive Nightshade Grade.

The automaker announced the news on Jan. 7 with a press release. According to the provided details, the XLE is the foundation of the new grade. It features an exclusive Karashi exterior color. Midnight Black Metallic and Wind Chill Pearl are optional colors for the Nightshade grade.

The new grade adds black badging, black bumper trim, black door handles, and a black shark fin antenna. The Nightshade Prius sits on 19-inch black-finished alloy wheels.

The unique touches continue with the interior of the 2025 Prius. The Nightshade grade adds black eight-way adjustable SofTex-trimmed front seats with grey stitching and carbon fiber details on the dashboard.

The Prius now has four grades with the addition of Nightshade. The base model is the LE model. XLE is the next step up and Limited is the top-of-the-line Prius. The Limited grade has such features as heated/ventilated seats and an eight-speaker JBL Premium Audio system.

All four Toyota Prius grades are also available with electric all-wheel-drive.

2025 Prius Pricing:

  • LE – $28,350
  • LE AWD – $29,750
  • XLE – $31,795
  • XLE AWD – $33,195

The new Nightshade grade is the top story of the Prius lineup, but other details bear mentioning. For example, the entire lineup features the fifth generation of the Toyota Hybrid System and a 2.0-liter engine.

The engine works in concert with two electric motors. It pairs with one to deliver performance. The engine then pairs with both motors to charge a lithium-ion battery.

According to Toyota, this powertrain delivers 194 net-combined horsepower on Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) models. It delivers 196 net-combined horsepower on the Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive (AWD) models. The claimed zero to 60 time for FWD-equipped models is 7.2 seconds.

Toyota says that the hybrid system delivers an EPA-estimated rating of up to 57 MPG combined. The e-AWD version delivers an EPA-estimated 54 MPG combined rating.

The 2025 Prius lineup comes standard with three available drive modes.

  • NORMAL: Allows the hybrid system to achieve an ideal combination of fuel economy and vehicle acceleration. The accelerator opening amount changes linearly in response to accelerator pedal operation.
  • ECO: Improves hybrid system efficiency by limiting power in response to light to moderate accelerator pedal input.
  • SPORT: Enhances dynamic performance and acceleration.
