Scout Motors, Inc. has officially kicked off its new era with the reveal of two production-intent concept vehicles.
Scout made the announcement on Thursday and showed off its new Terra pickup and Traveler SUV EV concept vehicles with a targeted production date of 2027. As Scout explained, both vehicles take inspiration from the International Harvester-produced Scouts between 1961-80.
Both vehicles will include a body-on-frame chassis, solid rear axle, and front and rear mechanical lockers. Scout’s goal is to provide “robust capability and “off-road performance.” This platform will have up to one foot of ground clearance and “nearly three feet of water fording capability.”
The Terra and Traveler will both go from zero to 60 mph in as little as 3.5 seconds, the automaker says. This is due to the four-wheel drive system featuring an electric drive on each axle, which Scout says produces nearly 1,000 lb.-ft. of torque.
The Scout concepts have two different options that impact the range of each vehicle. The automaker anticipates that the fully-electric variant of the Scout and Traveler can go up to 350 miles under battery power. The extended-range models boost this number to 500 miles using a built-in, gas-powered generator.
What about payload and towing? These are crucial factors for buyers of pickups and SUVs.
According to the announcement, both vehicles will deliver nearly 2,000 pounds of payload. The Traveler SUV will have over 7,000 pounds of towing capacity.
The Terra pickup with its 5.5-foot bed will have more than 10,000 pounds of towing capacity. The Terra’s bed also includes two 120V power outlets and one 240V power outlet.
Additionally, both vehicles will have a front cargo area capable of fitting golf clubs, a small cooler, a gym bag, and other items.
The Scout Terra and Scout Traveler offer numerous customization options
As Scout detailed, the Terra and Traveler will have options for buyers wanting to make the vehicles their own. This includes such items as auxiliary lighting, assist steps, and power off-boarding solutions.
Exploring the wilderness is a focus for Scout, so the options also include off-road bumpers with recovery points and a heavy-duty winch.
The optional Cabana Top will provide consumers with an “open-air experience” as they explore the world.
The options continue with the front seat. Both vehicles will be available with either a front-row bench seat or two seats bookending a multifunctional console.
Scout said in a press release that design and engineering took place in Michigan. Production will take place in South Carolina.
“Two years in the making, the day has finally come to share the next generation of Scout vehicles with the world,” said Scott Keogh, president and CEO of Scout Motors, in a statement.
“The original core idea — rugged, versatile vehicles capable of off-road adventure and family duty — is more relevant than ever. We couldn’t be prouder to revitalize this iconic American brand, create thousands of American jobs, and put American ingenuity back to work.”
The entry models of the Traveler SUV start at $50,000 with incentives. Entry models of the Terra pickup start at $51,500 with incentives. Retail pricing starts at under $60,000. Scout is currently accepting reservations with a refundable $100 deposit.
