Jeep has provided the first look at its first Global Battery-electric SUV, the Wagoneer S Launch Edition.
Jeep’s foray into the world of EVs includes an emphasis on performance. The Wagoneer S Launch Edition boasts 600 horsepower and 617 lb.-ft. of immediate torque.
Jeep claims the SUV will go from zero to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and that it will go more than 300 miles on a single charge.
The charging time is also a focus for Jeep with the launch of the Wagoneer S. According to the press release, the SUV carries a 400-volt, 100-kilowatt-hour battery pack. Jeep says owners can charge the battery from 20% to 80% in only 23 minutes with a DC fast charger.
The Jeep Wagoneer S will first launch in the United States and Canada this fall. The SUV has a starting U.S. MSRP of $71,995 (including destination).
The Wagoneer S can handle multiple terrains
Jeep has long emphasized outdoor adventures. The launch of the Wagoneer S continues this tradition as it includes standard, all-electric four-wheel drive.
The Launch Edition will feature Jeep’s exclusive Selec-Terrain management system that provides five drive modes. The list includes Auto, Sport, Eco, Snow, and Sand.
To compensate for the varying terrains, Jeep worked on reducing noise and vibration levels. The Jeep engineers improved body torsion stiffness by 35% over previous midsize SUVs from the brand.
Drivers and passengers can also create their soundtrack with the 19-speaker McIntosh sound system featuring a 1,200-watt amplifier and 12-inch subwoofer.
“The launch of the all-electric Jeep Wagoneer S marks a new chapter in the storied history of the Jeep brand,” said Antonio Filosa, Jeep brand CEO, in a statement.
“Building upon nearly a century of innovation and design, this first global EV will introduce a whole new generation of owners to an experience that is distinctly Jeep and 100% electric in every way. With new energy in the Jeep vehicle lineup, ranging from EV to V-8, customers have never had more freedom to choose their own adventure.”
