The Honda Prelude returns for the 2026 model year, bringing with it more high performance parts as Honda advances the “joy of driving.”
According to a press release, the sports coupe will feature chassis hardware from the performance-focused Civic Type R. This includes a dual-axis strut front suspension, wide front and rear tracks, and large brakes. The Prelude boasts 13.8-inch diameter front rotors and 12.-inch rear rotors. These pair with Brembo four-piston aluminum calipers.
Honda says that it tuned these systems specifically for the new Prelude while aiming to deliver a grand touring experience that is both “sporty” and “comfortable.” Owners will have the opportunity to take advantage of this tuning while switching between the available drive modes. The main options are Comfort, GT, Sport, and Individual.

The powertrain of the Prelude also undergoes some changes as the sports coupe returns to market. Honda took the powertrain from the Civic hybrid that features two large electric motors and a 2.0-liter Atkinson cycle direct injection gasoline engine. This powertrain delivers a combined 200 horsepower and 232 lb.-ft. of torque.
The 2026 Prelude features Honda’s S+ Shift system that simulates a “performance transmission” through downshift blips, rev matching, and gear holding. The system integrates paddle shifters to increase the level of driver engagement.
Honda incorporated all of these systems into its revamped body, which includes a wider stance and a low nose. Flared fenders cover the 19-inch machine-finished Berlina Black wheels and 235/40R19 all season tires.
One interesting touch for the 2026 Prelude is the use of flush door handles. They add to the clean exterior design.
The 2026 Honda Prelude will be available this fall at dealerships. Honda did not provide pricing information.
The Prelude interior mixes racing-inspired touches with luxury accents

The interior of the 2026 Prelude also underwent some extensive work ahead of the big reveal. The highlight is the pair of heated front sport seats featuring soft-touch leather and racing inspired integrated head-restraints. These seats feature a high-contrast design, a perforated houndstooth pattern, and the Prelude logo.
The steering wheel features a flat-bottomed design. It includes alloy shift paddles, as well as a marker to designate the 12 o’clock position.
The Prelude’s last ride took place in 2001, so cockpit technology did not hold great importance. How times have changed.
Honda has adapted to this new era by including a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a 9-inch HD color touchscreen. The system takes advantage of wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Prelude also comes standard with built-in Google and wireless phone charging.
Each Prelude purchase includes a complimentary 3-year unlimited data plan that works with the in-car Google systems.
Honda also focused on the auditory experience while working with Bose to engineer an eight-speaker system specifically for this car’s cockpit. This includes door-mounted Super65 wide-range speakers and a subwoofer.
“We are thrilled to be bringing back such an iconic nameplate to the Honda lineup,” said Jessika Laudermilk, assistant vice president of Honda National Auto Sales.
“The Prelude’s return demonstrates our commitment to exciting, fun-to-drive vehicles and will help to accelerate our hybrid-electric sales in the years ahead.”
