Car shoppers automatically look at the list of standard features when searching for their next purchase. Apple CarPlay, heated seats, and adaptive cruise control are only some of the examples on the list of desired additions. The following 10 options, however, only add to the experience of owning a car. These aren’t necessities; they are just nice touches for those willing to shell out a little extra money.

No. 10 – Headrest-mounted speakers

This is a relatively exclusive option in the automotive world. It’s not something you can easily add to a mid-priced sedan. Infiniti, however, is an example of a luxury brand with headrest-mounted speakers. This provides the opportunity to take private phone calls without interrupting the other occupants.

Speaking of music, modern vehicles offer no shortage of optional add-ons. Mercedes has its Burmester surround-sound system while other automakers opt for Bose. These brands offer more powerful speakers with more clarity, which makes driving more enjoyable. You have to have the perfect soundtrack for the road, and you don’t need it to sound garbled.

No. 8 – Wireless charging

Cords are a thing of the past, or at least, that’s what some automakers are pushing for. Wireless charging is standard in some vehicles, but it’s an optional add-on in others. Regardless, it eliminates the need for USB-C cables that can often stop working at inconvenient times.

No. 7 – Ventilated seats

Those who live in cold or temperate climates love heated seats. These take the edge off on those chilly mornings while commuting to work. What about car shoppers who live in places like Arizona or Florida? They don’t necessarily need heated seats. This is where ventilated seats enter the picture. These use fans and vents built into the seats to recirculate the air and prevent a sweaty back.

No. 6 – Roof-mounted cargo holders

An important option for outdoor enthusiasts is a roof-mounted cargo holder. It could be a bike rack or a cargo rack. In Mazda’s case, it could be a flat platform that keeps luggage off the roof of the vehicle. Regardless of what type, these roof-mounted holders create more space in the vehicle.

No. 5 – Weather package

Enjoying everything the great outdoors has to offer can occasionally come at the expense of your vehicle’s interior. This is why automakers offer weather packages during the purchase process. These options include special floor mats and trunk liners that properly withstand the snow, rain, mud, and other elements.

No. 4 – Tonneau cover

A common item for pickup owners, the tonneau cover fills multiple purposes. It protects cargo in the bed from the elements, something that is especially helpful for those hauling around tools. It also helps keep precious cargo safe from thieves. These covers are also helpful when camping. Extra gear can go underneath the tonneau cover, so that the owner does not have to worry about curious animals.

No. 3 – Wheel locks

While some options focus more on driver comfort and convenience, others highlight security. This is where wheel locks come into the picture. Unfortunately, some people will fall victim to thieves who want their custom wheels without paying. Wheel locks can help prevent this unfortunate situation.

No. 2 – Upgraded infotainment system

Infotainment systems are common in new cars. These touchscreens have controls for music, GPS, and other key functions that vehicle occupants may need while on the road. However, some screens are smaller in size. This is why some automakers offer larger touchscreens. If eight inches isn’t enough, shoppers can opt for 10 or 12 inches.

No. 1 – Cargo net/trunk organizer

Nobody wants to have bottles of oil or coolant sliding around the trunk on trips, especially if these bottles are next to groceries. This is why trunk organizers are atop this list. They keep the luggage area organized and help prevent spills. Built-in cargo nets also keep items locked in place.
