BMW has unveiled a light redesign for the 2025 M3, which most notably includes a horsepower boost.
According to a May 29 press release, the all-wheel drive BMW M3 Competition model keeps the twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six. However, it gains an additional 20 horsepower. The maximum output goes from 503 horsepower to 523.
BMW says the company achieved this by adopting “numerous elements” from race car engine construction. The list of updates includes an extremely rigid crankcase with a sleeve-free, closed-deck construction. The 3D-printed core for the cylinder head “enables optimized routing of the coolant ducts.”
The list of updates includes “an indirect intercooler supplied by a low-temperature circuit plus specially designed compressors” that enhance the turbocharger’s power output. The High Precision Injection delivers faster engine response through fine atomization of fuel.
The base rear-wheel drive model of the M3 comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission and 473 horsepower. It is the only model to feature the six-speed manual. The rear-wheel drive M3 Competition remains at 503 horsepower.
All of the M3 models have a limited top speed of 155 mph. The optional M Driver’s Package boosts the top speed to 180 mph for the sedan and 174 mph for the touring model (station wagon).
The M3 lineup includes slight visual changes
Along with the improved horsepower, the M3 lineup will feature slight visual changes. BMW redesigned the headlights and combined the high and low beams into one single module.
The headlights have arrow-shaped and vertically arranged LED units that serve as side lights/daytime driving lights and turn signal indicators.
The interior includes a new, three-spoke steering wheel. There is a red mark to indicate the 12-o-clock position, which serves as another nod to racing. The wheel has a flat-bottomed rim and modified spokes.
BMW will begin production of the 2025 M3 models in July. Production of all M3 sedan and touring models will take place at BMW Group Plant Munich.
BMW detailed the pricing for the 2025 M3 lineup. The rear-wheel drive base model will cost $77,175. The rear-wheel drive Competition will cost $81,375. The all-wheel drive Competition with 523 horsepower will cost $86,475.
