‘T.J. Hooker’: Where is the Cast of the Beloved Police Drama Now?

Police dramas, when done right, can draw massive viewership numbers. The show T.J. Hooker mostly succeeded because of a great cast.

William Shatner nails down the lead role in this cop show. With his presence, T.J. Hooker had a good chance of standing out in the busy TV world. This series lasted four seasons between 1982-86. Its first three were on ABC, which canceled the show due to low ratings. CBS, though, decided to give the show a fourth season. This allowed the cast of TJ Hooker to work together at least in a new set of episodes.

Where are the cast members from this beloved show? Most of them are still alive, although a couple have since passed. Let’s start with Shatner, who drinks from the fountain of youth every day.

William Shatner Stays Busy After ‘T.J. Hooker’

Shatner is 92 years old and remains active.

Shatner’s most recent work had him as the host and executive producer of The UnXplained from 2019 through 2023. Some learned reviewers of information Shatner presented on the show didn’t give The UnXplained high marks. Of course, Shatner went up in space in 2021, thanks to Blue Origin.

Adrian Zmed played Officer Vince Romano on the show. He’s also known for his starring turn in Grease 2, which led to other movies like Bachelor Party and The Final Terror. Zmed left the TJ Hooker cast when the show moved to CBS. He chose to take over Deney Terrio’s hosting duties on Dance Fever in that show’s final two seasons.

April Clough played Officer Vicki Taylor for one season. She retired from show business after appearing in one season of Brothers. Clough appeared in 20 movies throughout her career.

Heather Locklear appeared as Officer Stacy Sheridan from seasons 2 through 5. Locklear also did double duty on Dynasty while playing Stacy. Other series Locklear has appeared in include Franklin & Bash, Hot in Cleveland, and, Melrose Place. Locklear also has had some issues around alcoholism and substance abuse.

Richard Herd & James Darren Made Contributions

Richard Herd, who died in 2020, played Capt. Dennis Sheridan between 1982-84. Herd had quite a lengthy career in films and television. He had science fiction fans due to his role as John in the V series of programs in the 1980s. Herd played Admiral Owen Paris on Star Trek: Voyager, then did a turn as Matt Wilhelm, a boss of George Costanza, on Seinfeld.

James Darren, now 87, played Officer III James Corrigan in the T.J. Hooker cast. Darren had made a name for himself as a teen idol after his role in Gidget. Playing Moondoggie led Darren to make several records. But Darren also had a lot of television guest star spots in later years, too.

Hugh Farrington, who died in 2001, played Detective Lieutenant Pete O’Brien. Farrington, due to an injury suffered while in the United States Navy, acted from a wheelchair. Other movie and television appearances beyond being in the TJ Hooker cast included Quincy, M.E., Coming Home, The Terminator, The Golden Girls, and Caged Fury.

T.J. Hooker has all of the episodes out now on DVDs. The series, when it pops up on TV, sure reflects a different time and place for 1980s cop dramas. Sure, it holds up because of the storylines. And, of course, who will reject watching William Shatner be his bad*** self? The TJ Hooker cast does not leave its fans disappointed through each episode.
