Happy Days legend Henry Winkler and his wife, Stacey Weitzman, have been married for nearly 40 years and are still going strong. The Barry star and Weitzman crossed paths in 1976 when Winkler strutted into a Beverly Hills clothing store where Weitzman was holding court. Two years later, they sealed the deal at a New York City synagogue. Since their wedding, Winkler and Weitzman have reared three children together and are now proud grandparents to five.
However, Henry Winkler’s future wife wasn’t simply shopping at the clothing store where they first met. Following her graduation from the University of Southern California, Weitzman established her own public relations firm. She collaborated with high-profile clients such as Van Cleef & Arpels and Jerry Magnin’s, a prominent Beverly Hills clothing store.
Winkler and Weitzman crossed paths at Jerry Magnin’s clothing store, where she represented one of her PR clients. At the time, he was gaining fame for his role in Happy Days. Winkler fondly remembered their introduction, which happened when someone pointed and exclaimed, “Hey, there’s Fonzie.”
Winkler couldn’t get Weitzman off his mind and returned to the shop a week later in search of her. “I came back to the store the next week and she was there,” Winkler recalled to People in 2019. “And within 10 minutes, I learned how strong she is.” The duo went out for sodas and were inseparable from there.
Henry Winkler and His Wife Share Three Children Together
Two years after getting married in 1978, Winkler and Weitzman happily welcomed their first child, a daughter named Zoe, on September 30, 1980. Their family expanded further when their second child, a son named Max, was born on August 18, 1983. Before meeting Winkler, Weitzman was already a loving mother to her four-year-old son Jed.
Stacey, a breast cancer survivor, received the diagnosis shortly after her daughter, Zoe, started college. Although she initially received treatment, the cancer resurfaced a few years later. To ensure her well-being, Stacey underwent a double mastectomy, and she has been cancer-free ever since.
Henry Winkler has dedicated a significant part of his life to working with children, and his wife Weitzman has been by his side throughout the journey. In 1990, Weitzman and Winkler joined forces with six other couples to establish the Children’s Action Network. The network’s initiatives encompass providing free vaccinations to children and running a nationwide adoption program.
One of the secrets to Henry Winkler’s long marriage to his wife is they share a hobby. Winkler is an avid fisherman, and shares his passion with Stacey.
Though Henry is certainly the actor of the couple, Stacey occasionally gets in front of the camera. She has a modest number of filming credits to her name. While primarily focused on providing a normal upbringing for her and Henry’s children, she did lend her voice to a character in As Told by Ginger and made an appearance as Stacey Winkler in the movie The Touch.
