What Happened to John C. McGinley? What Dr. Cox From ‘Scrubs’ is Doing Now

Scrubs fans know that John C McGinley played Dr. Perry Cox on the long-running medical sitcom. But what is he doing now?

Nowadays, McGinley is focused on other responsibilities. Career-wise, his most recent television work saw him play Frank O’Sullivan in three episodes on Brooklyn Nine-Nine in 2021.

As for movies, John C McGinley co-starred with Garret Dillahunt in the flick, Benched, back in 2018. So, he’s done a lot of things in his career. He’s stayed busy and helped other actors and actresses along the way. Family is also important to McGinley.

“I’m not [working] now. It’s a little seductive,” John C. McGinley told Page Six at the 2022 ATX TV Festival. “When I balance what it’s going to be like not to be around because you’re working not fatalistically, it’s going to take a lot.”

John C. McGinley Focuses on His Kids

McGinley, 62, added that he likes driving his daughters to their appointments. It matters to him.

“I like to drive places because there’s this little window, especially with little girls, there’s a little window where you’re going to be allowed in and then you’re not going to be allowed in anymore,” he said, joking that he is “on the way out.”

From his first marriage to Lauren Lambert, John C McGinley is the father to Max. Max has Down syndrome, and McGinley has been on fire about helping everyone. He said that, at the time, Max was doing wonderful. His son started working at Starbucks while also being in a band.

“I know what Max’s path is,” McGinley told Page Six. He started talking about focusing on Alzheimer’s disease. “If he’s fortunate enough to live long enough and, you know, we’re buffering him with all sorts of interventions and things that will give him the best chance to live as long a healthy life as possible, he will get Alzheimer’s.”

Besides Scrubs, McGinley starred in Office Space, The Rock, Platoon, Wall Street, and Point Break. McGinley played Edgler Foreman Vess, a serial killer, in Intensity, a film based on Dean Koontz’s novel.

Actor’s Work Has Busy Resume

From McGinley’s second marriage to Nichole Kessler, they have two daughters. Both are healthy and going about living their lives as girls.

His acting resume is one that many people would be pleased to have. John C. McGinley has appeared on television in Another World, Spenser: For Hire, Frasier, Ground Floor, and Stan Against Evil. Other movie work roles included Sweet Liberty, Platoon, Wall Street, Talk Radio, Point Break, On Deadly Ground, Car 54, Where Are You?, It’s A Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie, and The Good Catholic.

McGinley did pick up a couple of awards for his work on Scrubs. In 2002, the Online Film & Television Association Award honored him with Best Actor in a New Comedy Series and Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. In 2006, he won the Festival Director’s Award at Method Fest for Two Tickets to Paradise.

When will he return to the movie or television world? No one knows. John C McGinley, though, has done so much work and met so many people he could maybe pick from the projects available, Anyone who gets him to do their TV show or movie will be glad to have such an experienced hand
