The Tesla Cybertruck continues to split users on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. The latest example is a video showing what creator Elon Musk calls a “bada**” truck.

The clip, which the Tesla Owners Silicon Valley account originally posted, shows multiple people trying to damage the Cybertruck’s body. One person repeatedly hits the rear door with a baseball bat. Another uses a crowbar.

The tests continued with a saw, an electric angle grinder, and a flamethrower. One person then repeatedly used a handgun to shoot the rear door. While there was visible damage, nothing penetrated the Cybertruck body.

“Why is this necessary, Elon?” one X user asked. Another said that they haven’t forgotten “the window.” This was a reference to an on-stage demonstration in which a person threw an iron ball at the Cybertruck’s window. The ball shattered the glass.

The discourse continued with X users showing support and disdain alike for the electric truck. One user said the vehicle was ready for war. Another asked if the Cybertruck was able to capably go up a hill.

The durability of the Cybertruck has long been a topic of conversation

Bullet durability has been a topic of conversation since 2019. This is the year Musk revealed the Cybertruck at the LA Auto Show. He shared many details during the event, including how the doors would stop 9mm rounds.

Tesla also released a video in December 2023 featuring multiple bullet tests. The lineup included a shotgun with a 00 buckshot load, a 9mm Glock handgun, and a .45 caliber Tommy Gun.

Both the .45 and the 9mm left “craters” in the Cybertruck’s doors. None of the rounds penetrated the vehicle. Though one spot had a crack where multiple 9mm rounds had impacted the door.

The 12 gauge shotgun made a more noticeable impact. The door had a through-hole where multiple buckshot rounds had hit in the same spot. These rounds did not penetrate the cabin of the Cybertruck, but they cracked the window glass.
