Will The Sex Industry Profit From Driverless’ Cars?

They say that prostitution is the oldest profession.

There is an urban legend that in the 1980s, when VHS and Beta were duking it out for supremacy in the home video market, VHS won because it was embraced first by the adult entertainment industry.

In the early days of the Internet, online porn drove the expansion of the internet in ways more wholesome sites could only dream of and was one of the first sectors to really start raking in the cash.

The bottom line is that sex sells and it has always sold well. The sex industry has also always been early adaptors to technology. Is it any wonder that many are speculating that it’s only a matter of time before the sex industry and driverless cars come together?

People have probably been having sex in cars since the Ford Model T first started rolling off the assembly lines in Detroit in 1908. How many people do you know that lost their virginity while fumbling around in the back of a Monte Carlo during high school? Maybe even you did. And people have always looked for new and exciting places to get it on, like 30,000 feet up in the air.

And people have always paid for the pleasure of physical contact.

Today, sex in cars is dangerous and uncomfortable. There isn’t enough room and if you are trying to drive AND have sex, forget it, it’s even more dangerous than texting and driving! Even if you are parked, you have things like gear shifts and steering wheels in your way. And don’t even get us started on the amount of room in the backseats of modern cars. You’d better be damn flexible if you are even going to try it!

But what if you don’t have to drive? What if there are no gear shifts or steering wheels to get in the way of a good time? What if, instead of seats, there is a bed? It’s all possible in the future!

And when there are beds and no more steering wheels, you can bet that pimps and prostitutes will be among the first to take real advantage of it!

You see, it’s likely that the first place we may see the cars of ill-repute will be for tourists. Driveless cars are going to do a lot for tourism. Beyond the obvious role of replacing taxis and Uber drivers, they have the potential to do much more, like guided tours of cities and historic sites, for example.

Scott Cohen, a tourism professor at the University of Surrey, and Debbie Hopkins, a transport studies lecturer at the University of Oxford, have also concluded that they will also likely be used as rolling motel rooms, picking up Johns at the swipe of an app, the woman of their dreams ready and waiting in the car. No reason to go to a hotel room or behind the curtain in a brothel. The sex machine arrives and after a couple spins around the block, so to speak, the John can be dropped off right where he was picked up. Simple and convenient.

“It’s only a natural conclusion that sex in autonomous vehicles will become a phenomenon,” Cohen said. He continued, “it is just a small leap to imagine Amsterdam’s Red Light District ‘on the move.’”

Imagine being able to tour one of the great cities of the world from the back of your own rolling love den.

In the future, anything is possible.

Let’s just hope there isn’t a weird robot driving watching.
