Aston Martin has announced the return of its flagship Vantage, which boasts 824 horsepower and 738 lb.-feet of torque.
The heart of the all-new Vantage is an engine that Aston Martin teased back in May. This twin-turbo V12 engine has a 5.2-liter displacement that matches other engines from the auto marker.
However, Aston Martin redesigned the engine from the ground up to meet emission standards. This ensures that the V12 will be around until the end of the decade while continuing the car maker’s traditions.
The changes include new intake and exhaust ports, new fuel injectors, and reduced inertia turbochargers. Aston Martin also redesigned the cylinder heads and strengthened the cylinder block.
According to Aston Martin, the Vantage is the fastest car in the company’s lineup with a top speed of 214 mph. The claimed zero to 60 mph time is 3.2 seconds. Zero to 100 mph is 6.2 seconds.
“It was inconceivable that a new Aston Martin flagship should be powered by anything other than a state-of-the-art V12,” said Aston Martin Chief Technical Officer Roberto Fedeli. “To this end our engineering team completely reworked our existing 5.2-litre Twin-Turbo engine from block casting to cylinder heads.
“With ambitious targets for gains in power and torque, plus equally tough goals for improvements in driveability, efficiency, and global emissions compliance, the result is a modern masterpiece.”
The all-new Vantage will start at $429,000 plus destination. Deliveries in the United States will begin in Q4. Aston Martin will limit the car to 1,000 units per year.
The Vantage features a motorsports-inspired exterior
Aston Martin unveiled the new Vantage on Sept. 3 and showcased the redesigned body. The Vantage draws inspiration from Formula One cars and past Aston Martins. It also features touches inspired by project cars that raced at Le Mans in the 1960s.
The touches include “F1-inspired thermos louvres to help cool the V12 engine.” The rear of the Vantage has a Kamm Tail to reduce drag.
Of course, the design is not the only change made for the all-new Vantage. The flagship car features a bonded aluminum body structure with double-wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension.
However, Aston Martin added underbody stiffening components to provide a 75% increase in lateral stiffness. This compares to the previous flagship car, the DBS 770 Ultimate.
“The teardrop exterior features an all-new surface language and amplified front-engine proportions, and the interior environment combines the focus of a true driver’s car with elevated luxury and state-of-the-art technology,” said Marek Reichman, Aston Martin’s Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer.
“There is great passion in creating pure excitement, and this new Vanquish is a culmination of fearless creativity and human ingenuity. We have combined next-level, ultra-luxury performance with British-cool sports car styling to deliver a crowning Aston Martin V12 flagship for the ages.”
