Travis Pastrana has just proven that a stock Subaru BRZ can successfully complete a 50-foot jump. It just may sustain some damage in the process.
The massive jump was amid a multi-part collaboration between Pastrana and Sickos, a group of YouTubers from Hood River, Oregon. The extreme sports athletes headed to Pastranaland in Maryland and took part in a variety of activities, some a bit safer than others.
While destroying cars is not ideal for most people, Pastrana and Sickos were actually doing Subaru a favor. The automaker had a matching pair of stock BRZ two-door sports cars that were not road-legal. They had no Vehicle Identification Numbers, so Subaru was going to destroy them anyway.
The first BRZ caught some air after a long day exploring Pastranaland. First off, however, Pastrana and Sickos spent considerable time jumping Can-Am side-by-side vehicles off a variety of dirt ramps.
Pastrana and Diesel Henderson closed out the jumping video by hopping in the second BRZ and ripping through the woods that make up Pastranland.
Pastrana was in control for the first attempt. He raced through the woods before hitting the massive, 50-foot mega jump. They successfully landed the BRZ, although they lost the front bumper and part of the rear bumper in the process.
Henderson then took over control of the sports car for the second attempt. A member of Sickos jumped in the passenger seat. The duo expressed nervousness, but they still went “full send” while racing toward the mega jump.
Unfortunately, for Henderson and his passenger, he did not make it to the jump. He cut the BRZ a little too close to a large tree on his warmup route. The result was that the car slammed into the tree. This destroyed the right front of the BRZ to the point that it was undriveable.
The second BRZ was the chariot for a drifting competition. Pastrana showed the members of Sickos how to successfully slide the silver BRZ around a pavement course. They then tried to recreate his moves.
The novice that drifted the best earned a spot in the New England 900, a race put on by YouTube content creator Cleetus McFarland. Forest Lawson won, so he had to get behind the wheel of a Crown Victoria for his first-ever race.
