Richard Hammond is joining forces with Morgan Motor Company for a special event. He will help the historic automaker reveal its newest flagship car, the Supersport.

According to a press release, the event will take place on March 11. The historic company will unveil its new Supersport at the red brick workshops at Pickersleigh Road. This facility has been home to Morgan production since 1914.

Hammond, the longtime “Top Gear” and “Grand Tour” host, will host the event. Morgan will stream it live on its website, YouTube channel, and social media platforms so auto enthusiasts around the world can watch.

Morgan teased the flagship car ahead of the official reveal. It posted a photo of the Supersport prototype during testing.

The company said that the car is built on its CXV platform, “an advanced evolution of the bonded aluminum chassis.” The new flagship car will feature a turbocharged BMW six-cylinder engine as Morgan pushes for even more driving enjoyment.

Hammond has strong ties to Morgan

Bringing Hammond in as the event’s host is a fitting choice. The longtime TV host has strong ties to the automotive company, some personal and some professional.

The professional side featured Hammond reviewing the Morgan Plus 8 on an episode of the original “Top Gear.” He slid the wood-based sports car around on the show’s test track while expressing his adoration for the car.

Hammond also purchased a Plus 6 several years ago. He customized the handmade car based on input from the DriveTribe community. Some features on the Plus 6 included a red leather interior, black exterior, and black exhaust.

The ties will now grow stronger as Hammond takes in the special event. He will help unveil the Supersport, which will take over as the brand’s top product. It will replace the Plus 6, which ceases production.
