Hyundai Motor Company has removed the cover hiding its latest all-electric performance model. The automaker has revealed the Ioniq 6 N at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

This EV is a street car on paper, but Hyundai says it is track-ready. Its front- and rear-mounted electric motors produce 650 PS (478 kW) and 770 Nm of torque and deliver a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) time of 3.2 seconds. The Ioniq 6 N boasts a top speed of 257 km/h (roughly 160 mph).

One major change for the Ioniq 6 N is a revamped battery system. According to Hyundai, this system adapts to a variety of track driving scenarios to deliver optimal battery temperature. The options include drag, sprint, or endurance racing. Hyundai also emphasized the EV’s drifting ability in its unveiling video.

Putting power into the machine is only one part of the process. Keeping the car planted and stable during high-speed maneuvers is another critical part of the build process.

Hyundai made changes to the aerodynamic package to pursue this goal. For example, the Ioniq 6 N features a swan neck rear wing and widened fenders. Hyundai says this delivers enhanced stability during high-speed cornering.

As an EV, the new performance vehicle from Hyundai does not require the driver to shift. However, this is a key part of the experience, so the automaker aimed to offset the loss with some key changes.

The N e-Shift system simulates “motorsports-inspired close gear ratios” so that the driver feels like they are racing through the gears. The car also boasts an N Ambient Shift Light that provides visual feedback for every “shift.”

Hyundai chose to unveil its newest performance vehicle on a week when automotive enthusiasts join together for a celebration. It took the car to the Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex, England.

A blacked-out Ioniq 6 N in drift spec took to the 1.16-mile hill climb on Thursday and put on a show for the festival’s attendees.

Instead of taking the traditional route up the hill as other drivers, the person in control of the Ioniq 6 N decided to do multiple donuts. They spun in circles, smoked the tires, and just enjoyed some time under the sun. A massive cloud of smoke followed for the entire run.

The car slid off the course at one point and appeared to get stuck in the grass. However, the driver navigated back and began heading up the hill while waving to the people in the crowd.

“With Ioniq 6 N, Hyundai N aims to elevate its offerings, enticing drivers with electric powertrains that offer high-performance enthusiasts a thrilling new avenue to electrify their passion both on the road and the track,” said José Muñoz, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company.
