Genesis is taking on the high-performance market with the introduction of its Magma sub-brand.
Originally unveiled at Genesis House in New York, the Magma program has the goal of delivering a high-performance version of each vehicle in the Genesis lineup.
The four members of the Magma program are the Genesis G80 Magma Special, GV60 Magma Concept, GV80 Coupe Concept, and X Gran Berlinetta Concept. Each vehicle in the Magma program features Magma Orange paint, a nod to the molten rock under the Earth’s surface.
“Genesis Magma presents an exciting opportunity to push the boundaries of performance and luxury for new interpretations in high-performance vehicles, with the ultimate goal of developing models exclusive to Genesis,” said Genesis Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke in a press release.
“The brand will continue to reveal experimental concepts with careful consideration of both technological and aesthetic elements. While speed and performance are important, the Genesis Magma program will look beyond, prioritizing the driving experience to kindle the joy of sporty driving with effortless comfort.”
Donckerwolke noted that the Genesis G80 Magma Special will be exclusive to the Middle East.
The first member of the Magma program available for the United States will be the GV60 Magma Concept, based on the Genesis GV60 electric SUV. Genesis has not revealed information about the GV60 Magma Concept’s performance, only stating that it will have “improved battery and motor technology.”
The X Gran Berlinetta Concept features a “front mid-mounted Lambda 11 V6 engine” with electronic assistance provided by E-SC technology. This powertrain provides a maximum of 1,071 horsepower and 986 lb-ft of torque. The V6 provides 870hp and 790 lb-ft of torque. The Yasa E motor provides an additional 201 horsepower and 196 lb-ft of torque.
The X Gran Berlinetta Concept is currently only available in the “Gran Turismo 7” video game.
Genesis originally revealed the GV80 Coupe Concept in April 2023. This was the company’s first coupe SUV. It served as the vision for the GV80 Coupe that launched in November 2023. The GV80 Coupe Concept was the first member of the Magma program to feature the Magma Orange paint.
