‘Boy Meets World’s Will Friedle Opens Up About Selling Porn, Smoking Cigarettes at 11 Years Old

‘Boy Meets World’s Will Friedle Opens Up About Selling Porn, Smoking Cigarettes at 11 Years Old

Back in the day, Boy Meets World actor Will Friedle developed a “side hustle” just in case the acting thing didn’t work out.

Friedle appeared on the Hey Dude…The 90s Called! and talked about his activities at 11 years old. Imagine being able to snag porno mags and cigarettes and sell them. Well, that was Friedle’s business.

“I’d get off at Port Authority, and my manager would pick me up — most of the time — and I would walk the streets at 11 years old,” Friedle, now 47, said. “I started smoking at a very young age, so I would go and I would buy cigarettes.”

He said in the interview that he’d go purchase the X-rated magazines while auditioning in New York.

“I knew I could sell them for way more money to my friends back in Connecticut,” Friedle said to the New York Post. “I would stop at the kiosk and they would look at me and say, ‘Well, you’re 11, so of course, here are cigarettes and porn.’”

Will Friedle’s Parents Not Happy With ‘Side Hustle’

Show co-host David Lascher said, “This is like the dark ‘Home Alone.’” That line caused Friedle to laugh. He said that his parents, who were lawyers at the time, weren’t happy when finding out about his side hustle.

“I tell my parents these stories now, and they are retroactively mortified that any of this ever happened,” he said. “But I loved it, you know.”

When hosting his own Pod Meets World podcast last August, Friedle had Melissa Joan Hart of Sabrina the Teenage Witch fame on there. Friedle let the cat out of the bag that he and Hart had a “whirlwind romance” when they were teenagers.

“I was with you for, like, your 14th birthday or 15th,” Friedle said to Hart. “Remember we went to some place where it [had] those big tanks you could drive or shoot the tennis balls at? We went out for that, and we were, like, making googly eyes at each other. And by the end of the night, we were ‘dating.”

Hart joked that they called each other “a few times on a landline.” Friedle played Eric Matthews on Boy Meets World and reprised that role in a later series, Girl Meets World.

Friedle noticed a change in how his character worked back in 1993. “Toward the third season, they made Eric really dumb. It was so much fun to play,” he said. “You couldn’t do anything wrong because everything Eric did was absolutely right for him.”

Actor Reprises Same Role In 4 Cartoons

To some young TV viewers, Friedle has played the same Batman/Terry McGinnis role in four cartoons. They included Batman Beyond, Static Shock, The Zeta Project, and Justice League.

Friedle, on the podcast, also talked about his battle with anxiety disorders. He said that his first panic attack happened when he was on the set of the 1999 movie H-E-Double Hockey Sticks. It was a watershed moment in Friedle’s life. He said that things like colors and tastes changed along the way.

According to BNN Breaking, Friedle said he reached a point where he even struggled to get out of bed. So, he started to take some medication for his anxiety. That led him, he said, to gain weight while he was working on Boy Meets World.

Friedle hopes that his own story will help people to take care of their mental health.

He married Susan Martens, his girlfriend, in 2016. They don’t have any children.
