Another Tobey Maguire ‘Spider-Man’ Movie Could Be in the Works, Thomas Hayden Church Reveals

Thomas Hayden Church is spilling the beans about Tobey Maguire possibly starring in another Spider-Man film. Church has been a part of Spider-Man fans’ lives as Sandman in Spider-Man 3 back in 2007. He recently hinted at a new movie when talking with the New York Post.

“Sam Raimi is doing, from what I’ve heard, he’s going to do another stand-alone ‘Spider-Man’ movie with Tobey,” Church, 63, said. Will Sandman be part of the movie? Church says that his character has “gotten sort of floated a little bit.”

Raimi has been behind the camera for some Tobey Maguire films. Additionally, he also directed the MCU film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, Church and Maguire returned in their characters, along with Andrew Garfield.

“They had an option for me to do another,” Church said. “Of course, everybody’s asking, like, well, does [‘No Way Home’] fulfill that? And so [Raimi] said, ‘No, no, we still want to have the option to use him in a stand-alone Tobey movie.’”

Sony Might Do Separate ‘Spider-Man’

In February 2023, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told Entertainment Weekly that a fourth film starring Tom Holland is in development. This is happening around No Way Home.

“All I will say is that we have the story,” he said. “We have big ideas for that, and our writers are just putting pen to paper now.” That could lead Tobey Maguire back into the Spider-Man movie world.

Sony, who does own the film rights to Spider-Man, could go after doing a separate film with Maguire. Recently, the studio did have Oscar-winning success thanks to animated films on Spider-Man.

Church’s next role has him in Accidental Texan, where he stars alongside Carrie-Anne Moss and Bruce Dern. Church will play Merle, who is a Texas oil driller whose business is on hard times. Rudy Pankow from Netflix’s Outer Banks plays Erwin, who gets cut from a movie, leaves Los Angeles, and gets stranded in Merle’s rural town.
