Porsche Penske Motorsport has announced its driver lineup for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This lineup features three race cars in the hypercar class, nine drivers, and one reserve driver.
The No. 4 Porsche 693 will feature a lineup of drivers that delivered strong moments in last season’s 24 Hours of Le Mans. Mathieu Jaminet, Felipe Nasr, and Nick Tandy will reunite for the prestigious endurance race one year after leading twice for nearly 45 miles.
The No. 5 Porsche 963 will feature Matt Campbell, Frédéric Makowiecki, and Michael Christensen. Kévin Estre will share the No. 6 Porsche 963 with three-time overall Le Mans winner André Lotterer and Laurens Vanthoor.
Dane Cameron will serve as the reserve driver for Porsche Penske Motorsport during the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Nasr has already achieved success for Porsche Penske Motorsport this season. He kicked off the IMSA schedule by winning the Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway. Nasr was part of the driver lineup that also included Campbell, IndyCar driver Josef Newgarden, and Cameron.
“I’m very excited to be back in Le Mans in the (No. 4) car,” Nasr said in a statement. “Winning this race one day is still a childhood dream. Since I joined Porsche Penske Motorsport we’ve been working towards this goal every day. We took a big step forward this year optimizing our 963 and hopefully, we can fight for the overall victory.
“The level of preparation behind the scenes is enormous. It’s fantastic to be sharing the car with Nick and Mathieu again. The competition is strong. It’s a great time for our sport in general with so many manufacturers and highly professional teams competing. It’ll be a unique experience for the fans to witness the biggest endurance race in the world.”
The 24 Hours of Le Mans will take place at Circuit de la Sarthe June 15-16. The endurance race will feature 62 entries across three categories of cars — Hypercars, Le Mans Prototype 2, and Le Mans Grand Turismo 3. The week leading up to the endurance race will feature four support races.
“By fielding the third car in Le Mans, we want to maximize our chances of achieving a possible 20th overall victory for Porsche,” said Thomas Laudenbach, vice president of Porsche Motorsport, in a press release. “This also means that we rely on experienced and fast drivers.
“Over the past few months Mathieu, Felipe, and Nick have consistently impressed with powerful performances in the North American IMSA series. The three are a sure thing in the Porsche 963. I’m positive that we’re perfectly prepared for the highlight in June. We want to win — there can be no other goal for Porsche!”
