Car collectors have the opportunity to purchase an actual Ford Mustang Dark Horse race car. They just have to head to Bring a Trailer.
The car is a 2024 Mustang Dark Horse R, a vehicle that Christian Bach used last season. Bach competes in the IMSA Mustang Challenge Series for KohR Motorsports.
KohR Motorsports has confirmed that this is the actual race car from last season. The team has made multiple posts about the Bring a Trailer auction on Instagram.
The Dark Horse R, which Ford Performance built, features a 5.0L Coyote V8 engine and a six-speed manual transmission. The former race car has a Recaro racing seat, a rear wing, and 19-inch Ford Performance R1 wheels.
The Dark Horse R in the Bring a Trailer auction features the Ford Performance window banner, Bach’s name, and the car number. It does not have the other details from the pink and blue livery.
Other unique details are the full roll cage, a fuel cell, a fire suppression system, and a quick-release steering wheel. An intercom system is in the single-seat cockpit.
According to the listing, the Dark Horse R was re-tubbed after a crash at Watkins Glen. The vehicle also sustained fender damage in a race later in the season, but the team replaced the fender.
The person who wins the auction on Bring a Trailer will secure the race car, the old tub, and several spare parts. This car is not legal for road use, nor does it have a traditional VIN or title.
2024 marked the inaugural season of the IMSA Mustang Challenge Series. Robert Noaker won the championship. Tyler Maxson, Jeremy Fletcher, Maximilian Opalski, and Sam Paley rounded out the top five in the Dark Horse Class. Bach ended the season 13th.
