Norman Lear decided to bring The Jeffersons to life as its own series after they were introduced on All In The Family. In its own way, the show proved to be groundbreaking. That’s nothing new when it comes to Lear-produced shows. He seemed to always have his pulse on society in the 1970s. George and Louise Jefferson literally moved up in the world thanks to George’s business success.
Sherman Helmsley and Isabel Sanford starred as George and Weezy, bringing The Jeffersons class and professionalism along the way. Well, let’s take a look at the top five episodes of this series as ranked by IMDb.
Sorry, Wrong Meeting
George is concerned about crime taking place in his building. When he hears about a meeting that will be dealing with that subject, he goes. And when he gets there, he sees some friends. What George didn’t expect in this Season 7 episode of The Jeffersons is that he’d be part of a recruiting meeting for the Ku Klux Klan.
984 W. 124th Street, Apt. 5C
While George and Louise do a pretty good job of sharing about what’s going on in their lives, one part of George’s he kept to himself. Louise would discover, at Christmas, that George has been sending money every month to place in Harlem. She doesn’t know about it and confronts George in this Season 4 episode of The Jeffersons.
Me and Billy Dee
Louise is looking for a celebrity to come by and talk with the kids at the Help Center. George suggests that she get Billy Dee Williams on The Jeffersons. Well, George pretends to be author Alex Haley and calls up Williams. He also covers his bases by asking Ralph to get a lookalike just in case. Florence (Marla Gibbs) gets excited but when Ralph (Ned Wertimer) comes back with a name, she assumes “that” is going to be Williams. She’s in for quite a surprise in this Season 5 episode.
A Case of Black and White
In this Season 4 episode, George invites Frank Howard, whom he hopes to do business with, to his home. While knowing that Howard is in an interracial marriage, George wants Frank to know he’s OK with it. In fact, he invites Tom (Franklin Cover) and Helen (Roxie Roker) over to show that he’s not against it. Tom and Helen decide to take a hike and leave George alone. But he turns to Florence and Ralph to help him out on The Jeffersons.
Louise vs. Florence
Louise gets all upset after asking Florence to take a plaque to an engraver. In this Season 6 episode, we end up seeing both ladies get into a spat. Things heat up after Weezy finds a mistake on the plaque and is about to wring Florence’s neck on The Jeffersons in Season 6.
