After 7 seasons, 180 episodes, and countless hours of laughs, Golden Girls fans bid farewell to their four favorite ladies of a certain age in the spring of 1992. The Golden Girls was still available to watch via re-runs, but you had to catch the girls on the right channels at the right times. Luckily, we no longer have that problem, thanks to streaming. Those looking for a pick-me-up with a trip to Miami have the entire show at their fingertips with a few clicks of a remote (or a mouse).
Here’s where to find every episode of The Golden Girls.
Where to Watch ‘The Golden Girls’
All 7 seasons of The Golden Girls are currently streaming on Hulu (with ads). Those with a VPN and those outside of the US can also stream the entire series on Disney Plus. The series is available to rent/purchase on Amazon, Google Play, and Vudu. |
Must-Watch Episodes for Fans of ‘The Golden Girls’
With a cast, story, and setting as strong as that of The Golden Girls, all 180 episodes are worth a watch. But let’s say you only have time to watch a few – which episodes are an absolute must? Well, it’s almost impossible to choose, but if we had to pick, these 3 should be first on your Golden Girls watchlist. are essential viewing for any Golden Girls fan.
The Case of the Libertine Belle (Season 7, Episode 2)
Coming up with entertaining new stories and scenarios for an entire cast of characters season after season, year after year, is tough work. As a result, it’s not uncommon for shows to experience a dip in quality in later seasons. It’s a true testament to the strength of the entire Golden Girls crew that the beloved ’80s sitcom never did. The show’s 7th and final season is every bit as strong as its first (and second and third).
Of the many memorable episodes in the series’ 7th season, “The Case of the Libertine Belle” is arguably the best. The girls attend a murder mystery weekend and, of course, Dorothy immediately reveals herself to be such a huge mystery fan it verges on “pathetic.” Sophia steals a place set, Rose learns “a maître d’ is some sort of waiter,” and Blanche is tricked into believing a romantic pursuit caused her to be framed for murder. In short, it hits all the high notes.
A Little Romance (Season 1, Episode 13)
“Main character dates unusual person who ultimately rejects them” is a sitcom staple, but no one does it quite as well as The Golden Girls. In this episode, Rose starts seeing Dr. Jonathan Newman, a psychiatrist she met through work. To the girls’ confusion, however, she’s reluctant to introduce them.
As it turns out, Jonathan is a little person, and though no one is rude to him (inhospitable behavior is generally reserved for Stan), the jokes fly immediately. Not at Jonathan’s expense, though – at Blanche’s. Poor Blanche can’t quite get comfortable around Rose’s new beau and wrestles with being “un-southern” by constantly putting her foot in her mouth.
Blanche Delivers (Season 6, Episode 1)
At the top of my personal Golden Girls watch list, this is the follow-up episode to Season 5’s “The Accurate Conception” (another fantastic watch). Blanche’s daughter wants a family but doesn’t want to wait for a man to have one. So, to Blanche’s horror, she gets pregnant through artificial insemination. In “Blanche Delivers,” Becky comes to Miami hoping to give birth with her mother present.
Self-conscious about her daughter’s then-unorthodox method of creating a family, Blanche tries to prevent Becky from having the baby where she happens to be familiar with the hospital staff. By the end, however, Blanche comes around, telling Becky how proud she is of her for making a family the way she wanted to as they marvel over newborn baby Aurora together. There’s also an ice skating coach, a man with forceps for a hand, and plenty of classic Golden Girls roasts and jokes, including:
Becky: Mama, that sounded just awful.
Blanche: Well, darlin’, that is woman’s lot in life – to bear the pain of childbirth.
Becky (panicked): What’s man’s lot in life?!
Dorothy: Their eyebrows grow together.
