Justified star Timothy Olyphant is set to reteam with Noah Hawley for his upcoming Alien TV series for FX. Deadline reports that Olyphant will star alongside Sydney Chandler in the sci-fi prequel. Olyphant and Hawley collaborated before in Season 4 of Hawley’s FX series Fargo.
Details about Olyphant’s character are a secret, but there are rumors that he plays Kirsh, a synth who mentors and instructs Wendy, Chandler’s hybrid companion. Wendy, a meta-human, has the cognitive abilities and innocence of a child, but with the physical form of an adult. Olyphant is expected to be a series lead along with Chandler.
Alongside Chandler, Olyphant joins an ensemble that features Alex Lawther as CJ, a soldier, Samuel Blenkin as Boy Kavalier, a visionary CEO, Essie Davis as Dame Silvia, Adarsh Gourav as Slightly, and Kit Young as Tootles.
In a Franchise First, the New ‘Alien’ TV Series Will Be Set on Earth
The upcoming Alien series, executive produced by franchise creator Ridley Scott, unfolds in a time preceding the iconic character Ripley, played by Sigourney Weaver. For the first time in the franchise, the story ventures onto Earth. However, it will be an Earth approximately 70 years from now.
Although production for the show started in July, it was unfortunately halted due to an ongoing strike by SAG-AFTRA actors at the time. However, there is good news as filming is set to resume in Thailand in 2024, with Olyphant’s Kirsh taking center stage in the story.
“I got some footage. Some of the first hour was shot before we had to shutdown. It’s stuff to play with and edit,” Hawley told Deadline recently. “I’m excited to get back in there.”
Olyphant’s Been a Fixture at FX Since ‘Justified’ Debuted in 2010
Olyphant has been a prominent figure on FX for the past fifteen years. He took the lead in the network’s highly successful drama Justified. The Scream 2 star recently starred in and served as executive producer for the limited series sequel, Justified: City Primeval. Additionally, Olyphant had a significant recurring role in Season 4 of Fargo and was a regular cast member in Season 2 of FX’s Damages.
2024 is set to be a big year for the sci-fi cornerstone. The Alien franchise is gearing back up after being dormant since 2017’s Alien: Covenant. Besides the upcoming FX series, a new movie is set to drop in 2024. Alien: Romulus is a standalone installment, set between the events of Alien and Aliens.
