In an age of spy shows finding their spots on network television, one that stands out is Mission: Impossible. Now, the original TV series ran between 1966 and 1973. Most fans recall Peter Graves leading the Impossible Missions Force. Yet Steven Hill led the team in its first season.

These secret government agents would go up against bad agents in the field. It was their job to capture or get rid of them. Mission: Impossible had some casting changes during its initial run on CBS.

Greg Morris and Peter Lupus were around for all seven seasons. Martin Landau, Barbara Bain, Leonard Nimoy, Lynda Day George, Lesley Ann Warren, Sam Elliott, and Barbara Anderson also spent time on the show. Bruce Geller helped create Mission: Impossible. And yes, there was a reboot of this series which didn’t last too long. This show also led to Tom Cruise creating a powerful movie franchise.

The Town

The Mind of Stefan Miklos

The IMF is going to have its hands full in this Season 3 Mission: Impossible episode. Two conflicting agents are hard at work. But one of them, Walter Townsend, gets his hands on false information. Another agent, George Simpson (Ed Asner), lets his higher-ups know that Townsend has false information. Stefan Miklos, the best agent in the two men’s home country, has been sent to verify Townsend’s information. The IMF is present to “assist” Miklos in his search for the right conclusion.

The Exchange

Cinnamon (Barbara Bain) falls into the hands of a foreign government. When word gets to Jim and the team, they head off on a rescue mission in this Season 3 episode of Mission: Impossible. This is a mission solely in their hands. They are out to rescue Cinnamon and they’ll use another spy as bait. And this spy, by the way, is one they’ve kidnapped.

The Photographer

But the problem arises on Mission: Impossible in that the code used to communicate is unbreakable. A plan is hatched to get the photographer to reveal how he decodes messages. Now, they want him to ask Cinnamon to pose for him. While doing so, she’ll talk about biochemistry…and hook the photog on the line.

In this Season 5 episode of Mission: Impossible, the IMF faces a contract killer. This person randomly makes decisions at the last minute. So, it secures his unpredictability. Barney (Morris) will stand in for the victim. But it’s in the IMF’s hands to stop the killer’s killing spree.
