Kevin James and Leah Remini brought the laughs for nine seasons with The King of Queens, but don’t expect a reboot to happen. James and Remini played Doug and Carrie Heffernan on the CBS sitcom. The show also had Jerry Stiller in the cast as Arthur Spooner, Carrie’s widowed father.
The interaction between all three characters kept viewers of The King of Queens tuning in during its run. Kevin James, who has a stand-up comedy special coming up through Prime Video, talked about that reboot option. He was a recent guest on Today, chatting it up with Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager.
“You cannot do it because of Jerry,” James told the show’s hosts. “How do you do that without Jerry? He was amazing.”
Stiller died in 2020 of natural causes. A generation earlier grew up watching Stiller and his wife, Anne Meara, do stand-up routines and sketches. Stiller also gained attention while playing Frank Costanza, George’s father, on Seinfeld.
Kevin James Isn’t Doing Reboot Without Jerry Stiller
Lately, Kevin James fans probably have seen memes of him and Leah Remini bouncing around on social media. In them, the show’s stars are reportedly sharing thoughts on what are their favorite episodes.
Without Stiller, it’s quite clear that James has no energy to give for a reboot. It’s probably in the best interests of the show’s fans to simply enjoy those reruns. The King of Queens is currently being streamed on Peacock and can be seen on TV Land.
James has been making the rounds on daytime and nighttime talk shows in support of that stand-up comedy special titled Irregardless. It’s available to be seen on Amazon Prime Video.
James follows the same mindset about not doing a reboot as Ray Romano does. Romano, of course, starred in Everybody Loves Raymond on CBS. At times, James would pop up on there in a crossover episode. Romano has expressed his desire to not get a reboot going. Why? Because two principal cast members, Peter Boyle and Doris Roberts, have died.
Comedian Addresses Viral Meme Going Around
Meanwhile, Kevin James has also been talking about his popularity in the meme world. In one of the most popular ones, James is wearing a flannel shirt, People reports. He’s looking right into a camera and shrugs his shoulders. In addition, the look he has on his face is priceless. James talked about the photo shoot that produced the photo during a visit with Jimmy Fallon on NBC’s The Tonight Show.
“When you first get a sitcom, you just listen to anybody. You’re just so happy to be there,” James told Fallon. “The photographer, he was just telling me to do goofy things.”
That explains James’ goofy face, shrugged shoulders, and funny look into the camera. “He was like, ‘Smile. Now like you’re sexy, now like you’re shy, but now you’re kind of …’ and I got into this position where I’m like, ‘What the hell am I doing?’” Kevin James said.
But the actor-comedian, who also starred in the sitcom Kevin Can Wait, shared he tried to bury the photo for good. “I said, ‘Well, please bury that one,’ and he goes, ‘Yeah, no worries. That one won’t come back.’” Uh-huh, sure buddy. “25 years later, the thing pops up.”
