‘Friends’: Heartbroken Fans Say Season 9 Scene ‘Hits Differently’ in Wake of Matthew Perry’s Death

Fans of Friends and Matthew Perry are still mourning the actor’s death on Saturday, and are reflecting upon a show scene. What is happening here? Fans of the show are getting a look at a scene from Season 9. During this period of time on Friends, Monica, played by Courteney Cox, and Chandler, played by Perry, were going out.

Let’s set up the scene for you. Monica is sitting in the Central Perk cafe with Phoebe, played by Lisa Kudrow; Rachel, played by Jennifer Aniston; Joey, played by Matt LeBlanc; and Ross, played by David Schwimmer.

“Hey, you know what, we haven’t all been together, the six of us, in such a long time,” Phoebe said. “What are you talking about, we’re all together right now,” Monica replied, while looking around at everyone.

“Um, Mon, Chandler’s not here,” Rachel says before Monica gets a shocked look on her face. While this scene brought about laughs at one time, it’s not doing so now. In fact, this scene has gone viral on Twitter with 857,000 views and nearly 11,000 likes.

Some fans have been sharing their own thoughts about Matthew Perry’s death. “Ugh… I’ve never been so sad for the death of a celebrity, till now. I truly feel like I lost a friend,” one person wrote. “Too soon! Too soon!” another one said.

‘Friends’ Cast Members Issued Statement About Matthew Perry

Matthew Perry died on Saturday while in his hot tub. The cause of death remains unknown. Perry was 54.

On Monday, the remaining Friends cast members put out a statement regarding Perry. “We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates, we are a family,” according to the statement. “There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.

“In time we will say more, as and when we are able,” the statement said. “For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.”

Other tributes have popped up on television and in New York City. For television, Max announced that it will have Matthew Perry tribute cards at the beginning of each Friends season that is on Fox. People have been gathering at the Big Apple location where Friends took place. People have been stopping by with their flowers, cards, candles, and posters since Saturday night.
