‘Frasier’: Where is the Cast Now?

‘Frasier’: Where is the Cast Now?

Frasier had a fantastic run on NBC in its first incarnation and it’s back on with new cast members. Where has the old cast gone? Maybe that’s something old-school fans were asking when seeing the Paramount+ show. Kelsey Grammer, who has played Frasier Crane forever, is behind this revamped version. In its first season, viewers did see Lilith (Bebe Neuwirth) drop by for a visit. The same goes for Roz (Peri Gilpin).

Where, though, are they now? What are they doing?

Let’s add a little more detail around Kelsey Grammer. In the first Frasier show, Grammer earned Emmy recognition for his work. Frasier consistently placed among the top shows on TV while it was on the air. Before the spinoff, Grammer, of course, plopped down at the bar in Cheers. He took on more responsibilities behind the scenes for the spinoff, though. Besides his work on Cheers and Frasier, fans of The Simpsons know that he’s been the snidely, snickering voice of “Sideshow Bob” for decades. It’s always a treat to see him pop up and cause Bart Simpson to have a heart attack. Meanwhile, Grammer has seven children from four different women.

‘Frasier’ Cast Included Pierce, Leeves

David Hyde Pierce played Frasier’s sometimes neurotic-but-funny brother, Niles. During the show’s run, viewers were treated to Pierce’s own physical style of comedy. His bickering chatter with Frasier always brought on a laugh. Pierce has stayed busy with stage work. Other TV appearances have included playing Julia Child’s husband Paul in the HBO Max series Julia. And, of course, Pierce has lent his voice for The Simpsons, too. He has two Tony Awards at home for his stage work. Pierce has been with Brian Hargrove, his husband, for 40 years.

Jane Leeves stole some scenes as Martin’s live-in caregiver, Daphne Moon. She and the late John Mahoney, who played Martin Crane, were so good together on Frasier. Leeves has also done impressive work in other shows, too. She memorably played a virgin in an episode of Seinfeld. Leeves also scored roles in Murphy Brown and Throb. Once Frasier ended, Leeves headed to Broadway for a run as Sally Bowles in Chicago. Other TV work has included Hot in Cleveland, where she teamed up with Wendie Malick (another Frasier actress), Valerie Bertinelli, and Betty White. Leeves has two children and is married to Marshall Coben. Oh yeah, she and Niles eventually got married on Frasier.

Peri Gilpin held her own as Roz Doyle when having to deal with Frasier at the radio station. Gilpin who, as we mentioned, did have a one-off appearance in the reboot, is keeping busy. Other work has included Scorpion, Make It or Break It, and Mrs. Robinson. Gilpin is married and has two children. There’s no word about any other appearances by Gilpin on the reboot at all.

Neuwirth and Mahoney Added Their Touch To Show

Bebe Neuwirth popped up some on Frasier, traveling to Seattle from Boston. Fans know that Neuwirth, too, originated her Lilith role on Cheers. But her first love has been the Broadway stage. She’s appeared in shows like A Chorus Line, Little Me, and Sweet Charity. Even after the original show ended, Neuwirth returned to the stage and picked right up. Neuwirth also has done other TV work in shows like Madam Secretary and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Since 2009, Neuwirth has been married to her second husband Chris Calkins, according to People.

And, well, we come to John Mahoney, who played Frasier’s and Niles’ father, Martin Crane. Much like Neuwirth, but in his own way, Mahoney found that stage work was his life. He loved it and stayed committed to it, starting with his work in Chicago at the Steppenwolf Theatre. Besides Frasier, Mahoney also lent his voice to an episode of The Simpsons. He also popped up on other TV shows like In Treatment and Hot in Cleveland. John Mahoney died in 2018 at 77 years old. He was never married and did not have any kids.

Do we get out of here without mentioning Moose? Hardly! Of course, Frasier fans know him better as Eddie, the troublesome Jack Russell terrier that sent Frasier through the roof. Martin, though, spoiled his little buddy. Moose lived to be 16 years old when he died in 2006.
