Willem Dafoe can now go along the Hollywood Walk of Fame and see his very own star right there among the great ones. Dafoe, one of the busiest actors in the movie business, received his Hollywood star on Monday.
Willem Dafoe received support from his wife Giada Colagrande and a number of his good friends.
“Finally, thank you to my wife Giada Colagrande, who teaches me gratitude and reminds me not to spit on my luck,” Dafoe said of Colagrande. They have been married together for almost 18 years.
Willem Dafoe fans got a front-row seat to the newest star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in his latest film, Poor Things.
Willem Dafoe Thanks Fans for Keeping It Real
“I just want to say it’s wonderful to be part of this community of artists and entertainers, people that — by sharing their experience, imagining others’ perspectives, telling stories, and musing on what is, was, and most importantly could be,” Dafoe said at the ceremony.
“They make us feel closer to each other and connect us, creating an important dialogue particularly needed in these detached, technology-driven and divisive times. So I’m glad to be with people like this and, hopefully, we’re making this a better world somehow.”
Others present at Willem Dafoe’s Walk of Fame ceremony included Guillermo Del Toro, Camila Morrone, Patrica Arquette, Mark Ruffalo, and Pedro Pascal.
In an interview with The Guardian back in 2009, Dafoe said that he met Colagrande “on the street in Rome.” He added, “I knew of her because I’d seen her films and we had some mutual friends.” Colagrande is an actress and musician in her own right. Willem Dafoe asked Colagrande to marry him, and he wanted it done quickly.
How fast? Dafoe was on the phone to the City Hall and see when they could get hitched.
“We were having lunch and I said: ‘Do you want to get married tomorrow?’” he recalled. “I called up City Hall and they said: ‘If you get here in the next couple of hours, you can register and then you can get married tomorrow.’”
The ‘Spiderman’ Star Married His Wife Back in 2005
Willem Dafoe and Colagrande were married on March 25, 2005. They have no children, but Dafoe has a son from a previous relationship. “So we ran down there,” he said. “We married the next day with just two witnesses, our best friends: my manager and her editor.”
Back to the Walk of Fame ceremony where Willem Dafoe offered more kudos to those present. “It’s real humbling to be here and to be part of this,” Davoe said Monday while pointing toward Hollywood Boulevard.
“It’s wonderful to be part of this community of artists and entertainers, people that by sharing their experience and imagining others’ perspectives… make us feel closer to each other and connect us,” he added.
Willem Dafoe, because he’s been in so many movies, probably knows first-hand that it can pay off to take risks. In 2020, Dafoe spoke to CNN about the need for variety in all of his roles.
“The thing about acting is it’s so easy for corruption to set in,” he said. “For a kind of routine approach, or to go to your bag of tricks – just like life. That’s the lockstep for an actor. You’ve got to find ways to wake yourself up and break yourself out of the routine.”
