Joan Collins and her spouse, Percy Gibson, made a rare red-carpet appearance at the 2024 Emmys on Jan. 15, sparking curiosity among viewers. The couple proudly stood for photos at the awards ceremony, which made their way to X (formerly Twitter).
For more than twenty years, Joan Collins has found true happiness in her marriage to Percy Gibson, her fifth and current spouse. The TV icon crossed paths with the producer, who happens to be 32 years younger, in 2000 during their collaboration on the play Love Letters, which was produced by Gibson.
Collins had been married four times before meeting Gibson. Initially, the Dynasty star had no intentions of entering into matrimony again. However, her encounter with Gibson proved to be a turning point and altered her perspective on marriage. “He’s so much his own person,” Collins told People back in 2002. “Extremely secure in his own skin.”
Little is known about Gibson’s life before his relationship with the Hollywood icon. However, Joan Collins revealed that her spouse is of Peruvian and Scottish descent. Gibson found success as a theater manager and film producer. He produced the 2017 comedy film The Time of Their Lives, featuring Collins. He also made a cameo appearance as himself in the 2009 documentary Banksy’s Coming for Dinner and was a contestant on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? in 1998.
How Joan Collins Met Her Spouse
In April 2000, Collins co-starred with George Hamilton in A.R. Gurney’s play Love Letters at the Marines’ Memorial Theatre in San Francisco. Coincidentally, Gibson was the producer of the play, and they immediately formed a connection.
Following the play’s two-month tour, the duo reunited in N.Y.C. and attended the musical Kiss Me, Kate. In the subsequent year, he volunteered to assist Collins with typing her fourth novel, which ultimately sparked their romance.
Joan Collins first tied the knot with Maxwell Reed, an Irish actor, on her 19th birthday. However, their marriage ended in divorce in 1956. In 1963, she found love again and married British pop star Anthony Newley, with whom she was blessed with two children. Unfortunately, their union also came to an end in 1971. Shortly after, Collins entered into matrimony with Ron Kass, a record producer for the Beatles, in 1972. Their marriage lasted until 1983. Finally, she had a brief marriage with Swedish singer Peter Holm from 1985 to 1987.
Meanwhile, the second time seems to be the charm for Percy Gibson. Before Collins, he was married from 1989 to 2001.
The Site of Their Wedding Holds a Special Place for Joan Collins and Her Spouse, Percy Gibson
On February 17, 2002, Collins and Gibson exchanged vows at London’s prestigious Claridge’s Hotel. Breaking from tradition, the bride stunned in a lilac silk-crepe gown by renowned designer Nolan Miller, eschewing the conventional wide dress. Meanwhile, Gibson wore a kilt. Collins commemorated their 20th anniversary by sharing a nostalgic photo from their wedding day on Instagram.
“20 years ago today #ahubby and I tied the knot and have been happily married ever since,” Collins wrote in the caption.
Claridge’s Hotel holds a special place in the couple’s hearts, as they celebrated both Collins’ 88th birthday and their 20th wedding anniversary with a glamorous, star-studded party at the hotel in 2022. Notable guests in attendance included the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, the elegant Elizabeth Hurley, and Simon Cowell.
