What Happened to John Slattery? What the ‘Mad Men’ Star is Doing Now

John Slattery put in his time playing Roger Sterling with impeccable taste and timing on Mad Men, but what’s next for him? Slattery has his name penciled into two projects with different audiences. For the first one, you should know that Jerry Seinfeld is the creative mindset behind Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story. It is due out sometime in 2024. Slattery is slated to appear in some role although none has been defined.

Second, Slattery will play Col. Burton C. Andrus in Nuremberg. This movie, directed by James Vanderbilt, is based on the book The Nazi and the Psychiatrist by Jak El-Hai. As of now, Nuremberg is still being filmed right now. Slattery just joined the cast in January 2024.

That sounds like an awful lot of work for Slattery. Looking at his resume, though, it’s quite clear that he loves his craft a lot.

John Slattery Married Since 1998, Has One Child

On a personal note, Slattery has been married to Talia Balsam since 1998 and they have one child.

Among Slattery’s most noteworthy roles, besides Roger Sterling, include playing Sam, Will Truman’s brother, on Will and Grace, Victor Lang on Desperate Housewives, and Ben Bradlee Jr. in the award-winning movie Spotlight.

From the world of television, Slattery has appeared in other shows like 30 Rock, Arrested Development, Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, Veep, Modern Love, and The Good Fight.

Slattery is one of six children and he was born in Boston. He graduated from The Catholic University of America with a bachelor’s degree in 1984.

While he has an extensive list of movie and television credits, Slattery also has spent time in the theater. Among his Broadway shows include Laughter on the 23rd Floor, Night and Her Stars, Three Days of Rain, Betrayal, Rabbit Hole, and The Front Page.

Slattery is always busy, it seems. A man on the go who loves his work and gives his all whether on TV or in a movie.

Yet no matter what he does for the rest of his career, many people will only see him as Roger from Mad Men. It’s OK, too, to see him team up with Jon Hamm, Don Draper himself, on other projects.

‘Mad Men’ Team Reforms For New Movie

That’s what led them to work again in 2023 on a dark comedy titled Maggie Moore(s). It’s about a small-town

Arizona police chief named Jordan Sanders (Hamm) as he works to solve two women’s murders, both named Maggie Moore. Slattery is behind the camera as director. But he picked out Hamm as his movie’s star and his co-star Tina Fey.

“You need a guy who has a certain command of a situation and is a leading man − and I knew one,” Slattery said. “I know I’m in good hands, so it was a very easy yes,” Hamm adds. These guys have been close friends even from Day One on the set of Mad Men. According to a story from USA Today, Slattery said he knew “five minutes in of Day 1” on Mad Men that he and Hamm would be forever friends.

Slattery appears to be an actor’s actor, one who remains dedicated to his craft. Yet he also likes to have fun and joke around on the set. Not horse-play, but just good-natured fun that allows other people to get the joke.

So, John Slattery keeps moving forward with his career. Now, we all get to enjoy the fruits of Slattery’s hard labor as an actor.
