What Happened to Ashley Johnson? What Chrissy From ‘Growing Pains’ is Doing Now

Ashley Johnson drew fans’ attention in the 80s as Chrissy Seaver on Growing Pains, but what is she doing these days? Johnson has kept up a busy work schedule over the past 10-15 years. And now that she’s grown up, she’s popping up in different projects in TV, film, and animation.

Gamer fans know her best from the voiceover work she’s done in The Last of Us games. The Growing Pains star voiced Ellie in 2013’s The Last of Us game, 2014’s The Last of Us: Left Behind, and 2020’s The Last of Us: Part II. She then received an offer to appear in the HBO version of The Last of Us. In 2020, she played Anna in the series’ episode Look for the Light.

Ashley Johnson Starred in ‘Blindspot’ Long After ‘Growing Pains’

Aside from Growing Pains, Ashley Johnson has held an awful lot of television roles in her career. Her biggest role on the small screen to date has been as Patterson in Blindspot, a series that ran from 2015-20. Johnson has also appeared on shows like Roseanne, Wings, ER, The Growing Pains Movie, Ally McBeal, Growing Pains: Return of the Seavers, Monk, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation in 2007 and 2014, Cold Case, and Masters of Sex.

In addition to her on-screen roles, the Growing Pains star has done a lot of voiceover work – Ashley Johnson voiced Gwen Tennyson in multiple Ben 10 games. Other games to feature her voice include Infamous First Light, Lego Marvel’s Avengers, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadline, and Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical.

Movie fans know Johnson as Beth, a waitress saved by Captain America in The Avengers. She also appeared in What Women Want, the Recess series, Killer Diller, The Brothers Solomon, Columbus Day, and Punching Heavy.

Though many young actors fall victim to the toddler-to-trainwreck pipeline, Ashley Johnson kept a solid head on her shoulders after Growing Pains. In her spare time, she loves to sing and play the guitar, piano, violin, and cello.

Johnson Played Nasha Nydoorin on ‘Critical Role’

For nine years, Ashley Johnson portrayed Nasha Nydoorin on the web series Critical Role, where she met Brian Foster, who hosted the after-show. Johnson and Foster got engaged in 2018. By the time May 2023 rolled around, she had left Brian’s side. At that time, she filed for a restraining order against Foster. She claimed that abuse and threats were a frequent occurrence at their home.

In October 2023, Brian Foster faced another lawsuit, this time from Johnson and six other women. Among the charges laid down at Foster’s feet include alleged assault, domestic violence, gender violence, sexual battery, stalking, and civil rights violations.

With Growing Pains far behind her, Ashley Johnson is now 40 years old. Her only marriage has been to Foster and they did not have any kids together.

Though she remains active in Hollywood, Johnson has time for philanthropic efforts, too. She is the current president of the Critical Role Foundation, which she discussed in a 2020 interview with ScreenRant.

“[O]ur mission is to leave the world better than we found it, and it’s something that we’ve talked about and have believed in since we started streaming,” she said. “And especially once we started our first charity stream, and I think the moment we realized we sort of had an audience and people were actually watching us play d&d (Dungeons & Dragons).”

Ashley Johnson has come a long way since playing cute Chrissy on Growing Pains. It looks like her career is robust and keeps her busy.
