Mark Hamill of Star Wars fame is adding his name to the many who have paid tribute to the late Matthew Perry. Hamill went on his Instagram account on Monday. He shared a wonderful picture of Perry with his followers. Then, he took a minute to remember and salute Perry, who died on Saturday.
“What a talent!” Hamill wrote. “He was so naturally hilarious & real in his performances, he felt like someone you had known all your life & really cared about. Someone who really WAS an actual friend. I never met him, but I’ll always be grateful for that, Matthew.”
Just about a week ago, Hamill paid loving tribute to one of his Star Wars co-stars, Carrie Fisher, who died too soon as well. His sentiments were shared by many people who heard the sad news about the Friends star. Perry died at his home in California on Saturday afternoon. He was found in his hot tub after reportedly coming home from a lengthy pickleball game.
Matthew Perry Made Sure Chandler Had Depth
During his time on Friends, Perry made sure that his character, Chandler Bing, showed a little bit of hilarity while keeping his feet on the ground. Perry starred alongside Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, and Matt LeBlanc throughout the show’s run. Friends became one of NBC’s biggest sitcom hits in history.
Yet Perry always was dealing with his own demons. As you may know, Perry had a serious drug and alcohol problem. It affected his work on the set and life away from everything. He tried numerous times to achieve long-term sobriety, but it reportedly never stuck.
Over the past few days, fans from the United States and around the world have been paying tribute to Perry. His fellow celebrities and stars have been sharing their thoughts on social media. But the remaining cast members of Friends have been relatively quiet.
About the only news involving a cast member is a report that Kudrow is planning to adopt Perry’s dog.
Meanwhile, a number of Perry and Friends fans gathered together outside of the show’s iconic apartment. They were there to show support for one another. Of course, they gathered there to pay tribute to a man and actor they all loved.
One person wrote on a poster board: “We are so sorry no one was there for you. You are so loved and will be missed for generations. Thank you for being our friend.” Another person’s sign read. “We will never understand what Chandler’s job was,” read another. “But we will know how much joy being in his company brought us.”
