Rita Moreno Admits Elvis Presley Romance Was Revenge on Marlon Brando

Rita Moreno Admits Elvis Presley Romance Was Revenge on Marlon Brando

Rita Moreno and Elvis Presley were an item many years ago but it was kept off the front pages and gossip columns. Moreno and fellow actor Marlon Brando were going steady when she caught Brando cheating on her after she noticed another woman’s underwear in a clothes drawer at home.

You might think Elvis went up and snagged Moreno by the arm. Well, that didn’t happen at all. TMZ reports that Presley asked his longtime manager Colonel Tom Parker to fetch her. According to Moreno, Parker said, “He liked what he saw and he would like very much to meet you. Would you like to meet him?”

Still upset at Brando’s cheating on her, Moreno accepted Parker’s offer. Rita Moreno, who is an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award) winner, spilled the beans about her time with Elvis.

Rita Moreno Was Not Impressed by Elvis Presley

In a 2021 interview on ABC’s The View, Rita Moreno said that she found Elvis “sweet but boring.” So, that part of her amazing life lasted for a short time. It took a while, but Moreno found true happiness. She married Leonard Gordon, a doctor, and they were together for 45 years until his death in 2010.

Moreno said that Gordon had “a fabulous sense of humor.” The Sesame Street actress added some details to her comments. Gordon was “very controlling,” it states in the People article.

“Things began to get very tense,” Moreno said. “And if it were not for my daughter, I probably would have left.” Gordon did retire from his job to handle Moreno’s career.

He taught Moreno “a big, deep lesson,” she said. “This marriage taught me something about relationships that I didn’t like, and that is having to be with somebody forever and ever is not necessarily a fabulous thing. Sometimes it is. But more often than not, it’s not.”

What about Brando? Known for his roles in The Godfather and Mutiny on the Bounty, Brando was married three times. He had quite an appetite for food and drink. Obviously, for women as well.

Moreno Scored Big in ‘West Side Story’

Rita Moreno, 92, did not appear in a move with Elvis. But she has starred in some of the most important and entertaining movies. She had roles in Singin’ in the Rain and The King and I, all leading up to her breakout role in West Side Story. That role led Moreno to become the first Latin American woman to win an Oscar.

Television viewers, young and old alike, found Moreno full of life and energy. She starred in the children’s show The Electric Company and the James Garner detective show The Rockford Files. Moreno picked up two Primetime Emmys for a 1977 guest spot on The Muppet Show and a 1978 Rockford appearance. Other TV work included roles on Oz, Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego?, Jane the Virgin, and an updated version of Norman Lear’s sitcom One Day at a Time.

In 2021, Moreno’s life was the topic of a documentary titled Rita Moreno: Just a Girl Who Decided to Go For It.

With her now in her 90s, you might expect Moreno to slow down a little bit. Well, she’s not scouring the trades for roles or calling places all the time. Yet Moreno is still getting out in public. Case in point was her visit to The View.
