News of Matthew Perry’s death sparked an immediate outpouring of grief. Now his Friends on-screen mom Morgan Fairchild is paying tribute. The veteran actress posted a picture of herself on Twitter/X with Perry (and on-screen “Dad,” Kathleen Turner) from the iconic comedy show.
“I’m heartbroken about the untimely death of my “son”, Matthew Perry,” Fairchild wrote in the caption. “The loss of such a brilliant young actor is a shock.” Fairchild also noted another connection to Perry. “I’m sending love & condolences to his friends & family, especially his dad, John Bennett Perry, who I worked with on Flamingo Road & Falcon Crest.“
Fans were quick to show their support for Morgan Fairchild in her grief over Matthew Perry. “So sorry for your loss, I always watched him and the others on Friends, gonna miss seeing him,” one fan replied.
Another fan remembered the episode Fairchild took her posted image from, in which Perry’s Chandler finally marries Monica (Courtney Cox). “I remember this episode so well,” the wrote. “I can’t even count the times I watched my DVDs of ALL the Friends series. My other fav guest cameos were Bruce Willis and Paul Rudd. I’m holding space in my heart for Matthew’s family. I just lit this candle for him.”
Finally, one fan offered Fairchild their condolences. “I share your heartbreak over the loss of Matthew Perry,” they wrote. “He was an exceptional talent, and your support for his family and friends is truly compassionate during this difficult time.”
Morgan Fairchild Isn’t the Only ‘Friends’ Alum Paying Tribute to Matthew Perry
Of course, Morgan Fairchild was joined by other Friends actors in mourning Perry. Actor Michael Rapaport, known for his recurring role as Gary, one of Phoebe’s boyfriends on Friends, also expressed his condolences on Twitter/X. “[Perry was] so nice, cool, chill & talented,” he wrote. “You are a part of American Culture and will live on forever.”
Maggie Wheeler, the actress who portrayed Janice, Chandler’s girlfriend, also took to Instagram to share a heartfelt tribute honoring Perry. “What a loss. The world will miss you, Matthew Perry,” Wheeler captioned an image of her with Perry from the show. “The joy you brought to so many in your too short lifetime will live on. I feel so very blessed by every creative moment we shared.”
Authorities discovered Matthew Perry dead Saturday at his home in Pacific Palisades. The cause of death, an apparent drowning, is under investigation. No evidence of foul play has been found. He was 54 years old.
In 2021, Perry joined his fellow cast members from Friends for a retrospective special on HBO Max. Just last year, he also authored his memoir titled Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, where he candidly recounted his journey to stardom and his struggle with addiction.
