‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Star Frankie Muniz Reveals At Age 38 That He’s ‘Never Had a Sip’ of Alcohol

Frankie Muniz, the Malcolm in the Middle alum and current professional racecar driver, revealed he’s never consumed alcohol in his 38 years. The Agent Cody Banks star made the revelation on Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown podcast.

During his interview, Muniz pondered upon his career in car racing and the choice he made to step away from the entertainment industry. He further revealed that despite being surrounded by showbiz for years and having family members who indulge in drinking, he has never partaken in alcohol or experimented with drugs.

The discussion on Muniz’s sobriety came up when the Jeopardy! host and former Blossom star asked about his choice to not drink alcohol. “Were you raised in a tradition that did not drink?” Bialik’ asked.

“I tried to figure out why I didn’t because I don’t have a reason. It wasn’t, like, a religion,” Muniz explained. Later, he discovered that his parents had been heavy marijuana smokers, a revelation they shared with him as he grew older. “Now I talk to my dad about it and my mom, and they’re like, ‘We smoked pot every single day. You just didn’t know,’” he recalled. “Every family member in my family drinks. And that’s what they do for fun,” Muniz added.

Frankie Muniz’s Motivation to Abstain From Alcohol Came From an Unlikely Place

He revealed that at the age of 18, he consciously chose to abstain from alcohol when he encountered it for the first time. “In my mind, I felt like I had made it so long without it, I was like, ‘Well, I’m not going to start now,’” Muniz explained. “Even though I was only 18.’”

Frankie Muniz found the motivation to stop drinking after seeing how people reacted when he declined alcohol. “I couldn’t believe everyone’s reactions when I said I don’t drink,” he recalled. “‘Oh, we’re at a club, we have a bottle. You want a drink?’ ‘No, I don’t drink. I’m good with water.’ Everyone was either shocked or appalled that I didn’t drink. Or they’d be like, ‘Wow, that’s so strong of you.’”

Muniz then quipped that now that he was approaching 40, he would start drinking that night. However, the My Boy Skip star quickly added, “Only kidding.” Muniz has made impressive progress since his days as a child star. He excels as a race car driver, and since 2020, he’s been happily married and is now a proud parent.
