Macaulay Culkin Reflects on Becoming a Pop Culture Icon After ‘Home Alone’

Macaulay Culkin finally got his well-deserved star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame this weekend. He credited his role in Home Alone for bringing him the honor.

The 43-year-old stood for his ceremony on Friday, Dec. 1, where his name took over the sidewalk’s 2,765th star. Culkin attended the event with his fiancee, Brenda Song, and their two sons. During his acceptance speech, he gave a heartwarming shoutout to Song.

“I’d like to thank Brenda,” he said. “You’re absolutely everything, you’re my champion, you’re the only person happier for me today than I am, you’re the best woman I’ve ever known, you’re the best person I’ve ever known.”

“You’ve given me all my purpose,” he continued. “You’ve given me family. And after the birth of our two boys, you’ve become one of my three favorite people.”

To conclude his speech, the former child star gave a tribute to Home Alone, telling the crowd, “In the spirit of the holiday season, I just want to say, ‘Merry Christmas, you filthy animals.’”

Macaulay Culkin ‘Honored’ to be a ‘Trivial’ Face in Movie History

As the Walk of Fame ceremony was wrapping up, Fox News caught up with the actor and asked knew that playing Kevin McCallister was a straight ticket to ever-lasting stardom.

“I was 9 years old. And so, like, you know, you kind of have to look at it from that perspective. You have no idea what’s going on,” he admitted. “I always knew my lines. I always found my light and just tried to be professional and charming at the same time. That’s the best I could do.”

However, Macaulay Culkin does have pride in being a pop-culture icon. After leading the Holiday Classic in 1990, he shot to A-list status. Following the movie’s initial success, it remained a cult-classic and Christmas viewing tradition for millions of families. Over 30 years later, Home Alone is just as popular.

“When it comes to my life and stuff like that, then I kind of can’t equate it to somebody else,” Culkin said of being a 10-year-old super celebrity. “I can’t look left and right and find a lot of, like, peers when it comes to that kind of stuff.”

“It’s my life the way it normally is. But also, at the same time, I feel honored, and I think it’s super cool. You know, again, I get to be trivial,” he continued. “I get to be a part of that. That’s really cool.”
