Lisa Kudrow of Friends fame did have a desire to be married and with a child, yet she didn’t yearn for a big family. For Kudrow, everything lined up perfectly. Kudrow met her husband, Andrew Stern, in the 1980s. They got married in 1995. Guess who came along in 1998? None other than her son, Julian Murray Stern.
For those who might wonder if Julian had any clue about his mother’s fame, let me clue you in a little bit. He spent some of his childhood on the Friends set. So the young man already knows all of Mom’s incredible cast members.
It did take a little time for Julian to warm up to Friends. See, he was at his place recovering from COVID. That gave him time on his hands to check out Mom’s work on Friends. Kudrow brought up Julian’s reaction to it when chatting on Late Night with Seth Meyers.
“He called me up and said, ‘So I just watched the first two episodes. It’s really good, Mom,’” Lisa Kudrow recounted according to People. “I said, ‘Thanks.’ He said, ‘Can I ask you some questions about that?’ I’m like, ‘Yes!’ I almost started crying. I didn’t think that anyone in my family liked that show.
“He was 5 when we were finished … but he did start watching when his friends at school started watching,” Kudrow said. “He watched it and he was impressed.”
‘Friends’ Producers Make Kidrow’s Pregnancy Part of Show
It probably helped Kudrow a lot that the Friends show producers simply found a way to make it part of the storyline. Phoebe actually becomes a surrogate mother for someone else on Friends. “The six of us would do a huddle backstage and just say, ‘All right, have a good show, love you love you love you love you.’ And when I was pregnant, then they would say, ‘Have a great show, love you love you — love you, Little Julian. ‘Cause we knew it was a boy and that was his name,” she said, adding that it was “so sweet” that her baby was included.
Julian spent a lot of his childhood hanging around at Friends. There were moments, though, when he would get confused between his mother and Aniston. “He’d fly into her lap,” Lisa Kudrow said. “Well, she’s a love bug, and that made sense. And I was always glad for anyone that Julian felt love for a felt from. But then at home, she’d be on TV, and he’d go, ‘Mommy!’”
As it turns out, Kudrow and her husband didn’t have any more children. Julian says he’s thankful. It was telling that from a young age, he did not want siblings. “[He] made it clear from the moment he could speak that he didn’t want a brother or sister … [and] it just worked out that way anyway — but to this day, he’ll say, ‘Thank you,’” Kudrow said in a 2017 Page Six article.
Well, Kudrow’s son is following the same path as his famous mother. He has experience as an actor and a cinematographer. Earlier this year in January, he posted about a short film he starred in, Seth’s Big Break 2. Julian also shared some behind-the-scenes photos of himself working on the set.
Finally, it’s quite obvious that he has a really great relationship with Kudrow, his famous mother. Maybe some of her good luck will find its way to him and his career.
