The spotlight tonight is on a cherished holiday tradition — the Rockefeller Christmas Tree Lighting!

Marking its 91st anniversary, this festive event is a must-watch for many every year. The hosting duties for this year’s event fell upon Kelly Clarkson, who recently relocated her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, to New York. The show now records its weekly episodes in a Rockefeller Center studio.

During the event, legendary singer Cher performed her new Christmas song “DJ Play a Christmas Song,” from her recently released album Christmas. Her performance got everyone in attendance dancing — including Kelly Clarkson. And the internet loved the moment.

Another fan mentioned just how adorable the moment was. Clarkson also performed a few Christmas songs, too, all of which were covers. There’s no word on whether or not Cher enjoyed her performances as much as Clarkson enjoyed Cher’s.

Some people were too emotional for words — relying on gifs to showcase their excitement.

Details on the 2023 Rockefeller Christmas Tree

The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree for this year boasts an impressive age — estimated to be between 80 and 85 years old. Standing tall at 80 feet and spreading 43 feet wide, the majestic tree has been an awe-inspiring sight for visitors since its delivery on November 11.

Adorned with over 50,000 LEDs, equivalent to approximately 5 miles of string lights, the 12-ton tree sparkles with festive brilliance.

Adding to the enchantment, the crowning glory of this year’s Rockefeller tree is the stunning 900-pound Swarovski crystal star. Crafted by architect Daniel Libeskind in 2018, this radiant star serves as the perfect finishing touch to the already mesmerizing decorations.
