Keith Morrison Speaks Out Following Stepson Matthew Perry’s Death

One month after his stepson, Matthew Perry, unexpectedly passed away at the age of 54, Dateline correspondent, Keith Morrison spoke about the Friends star’s shocking death.

In a statement provided to Entertainment Tonight, Morrison along with Perry’s family encouraged others to donate to The Matthew Perry Foundation on Giving Tuesday (Nov. 28). “It is important to us as a family to honor Matthew’s legacy,” the statement reads. “The potential that the Matthew Perry Foundation has to help those suffering from this disease is something we are proud to bring to the world.”

The foundation was launched on Nov. 3, just days after Perry’s death. It is the “realization” of the actor’s enduring commitment to helping others, who struggle with addiction. “It will honor his legacy and be guided by his own words and experiences,” the organization’s website reads. “And driven by his passion for making a difference in as many lives as possible.”

Morrison spoke out on X (formerly known as Twitter) about the organization. “This is not the sort of thing I commonly do,” he prefaced. “This pitch. But this year is different. And tomorrow is Giving Tuesday. Do what you can; he would have been grateful.” He also included the foundation’s website.

Morrison married Perry’s mother, Suzanne Perry, in 1981. She was the secretary of former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau. Along with his son Michael and Matthew Perry, from previous relationships, the couple shares four children Caitlin, Emily, Willy, and Madeleine.

Keith Morrison Once Described His Stepson Matthew Perry As Being ‘Remarkable’

During a 2020 interview with People, Keith Morrison opened up about his relationship with stepson, Matthew Perry. The journalist described Perry as being “remarkable” since adolescence.

“He’s one of those people who always is the center of the room for a reason,” Morrison explained. “And it was so as a kid.”

Keith Morrison also stated that Perry was “the guy” when it came to the actor playing hockey and tennis. “He was extremely, extremely good on the tennis court and very intense. He’s an intense, talented, focused character. He’s very bright. That was always the case as he was growing up.”

Morrison then stated the success of Perry’s Friends role surprised not only the actor but his family as well. “He was at a stage where [he was questioning] if this acting thing was going to work or not,” Morrison recalled. “Then suddenly, boy did it ever. A million things have sprung from that, but him being selected for a role like that does not surprise me one bit.”

The Dateline journalist went on to add that Perry was a good guy. “We love having him around.”
