How is Matthew Perry Related to Dateline’s Keith Morrison?

When actor Matthew Perry died, one family member who was seen in public was Keith Morrison, best known as an NBC newsman. There may be a lot of people who aren’t aware of the connection between Morrison and Perry. So, how is Matthew Perry related to Keith Morrison?

Keith Morrison is Matthew Perry’s stepfather. Matthew’s mother, Suzanne Perry, was married to John Bennett Perry between 1968-70. She would eventually leave that marriage, only to marry Morrison back in 1981.

In light of Matthew Perry’s death, Morrison has been photographed at Perry’s home. People know Morrison from his Dateline NBC appearances.

On Monday, Morrison went on X, formerly known as Twitter, and put a link up to the Matthew Perry Foundation. That organization works to have an “enduring commitment to helping others struggling with the disease of addiction,” the website states.

“This is not the sort of thing I commonly do, this pitch,” Morrison wrote. “But this year is different. And tomorrow is Giving Tuesday. Do what you can; he would have been grateful.”

Until this social media post, Morrison had not made any public comments.

Matthew Perry’s Stepfather Keith Morrison is a Native of Canada

Morrison is a native of Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, Canada. He’s actually served two tours with the NBC network family. Morrison moved from Canada to Los Angeles, where he anchored the 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. news for KNBC-TV. Morrison then, in 1988, would become a member of the NBC News family on the West Coast. His assignments covered both NBC Nightly News and the Today Show.

Morrison was sent over in 1988 to cover the Tiananmen Square protests in 1989 in China. Then, Morison would go to work and produce documentaries and magazine segments for different shows.

But he headed back home to Canada in 1992, where Morrison went to work at CTV. Morrison stayed there until eventually returning to NBC in 1995. He’s been there ever since. Sitcom fans have seen Morrison appear as a newscaster on Seinfeld. In the episode titled The Trip, Kramer (Michael Richards) gets arrested as a serial killer.

Saturday Night Live comedian Bill Hader worked up a pretty spot-on impression of Morrison. It’s even become an emoji on the Internet, showing Hader (as Morrison) sitting in a chair munching down on a box of popcorn.

The newscaster has continued to work for NBC in the aftermath of Matthew Perry’s death.

Matthew Perry’s family and friends gathered for a funeral and memorial in California. All of the members of Perry’s sitcom Friends have celebrated his life in social media posts. At this time, Morrison is staying busy with his network role.
