Home Alone is one of those movies that brings a lot of warmth and happiness to people who see it regularly. Watching Kevin have to deal with being left behind gets downright silly.
Seeing him do battle against a couple of inept tough guys is hilarious. This cast, carefully put together, has become like a family of close friends.
What are they up to these days? Let’s take a look.
Macauley Culkin played Kevin McCallister. Of course, we’ll start here. He became a star pretty much overnight. Home Alone came out in 1990 when he was 10 years old. Up next for him was My Girl in 1991, followed by Home Alone 2: Lost in New York in 1992. Culkin married Rachel Kiner when he was 18. They ended up getting a divorce in 2002. Culkin had a relationship with Mila Kunis for a few years. He eventually remarried to fellow child star Dakota Song. They have two children. Culkin also is the publisher and CEO of the website Bunny Ears. This month, Culkin received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern Secure Spots In ‘Home Alone’ Lore
Joe Pesci played Harry Lyme, one of the two criminals. Pesci is a familiar face in Martin Scorsese films like Goodfellas, Casino, and My Cousin Vinny. He reprised his role of Lyme in the Home Alone sequel. Pesci did win an Oscar for his work in Goodfellas. The Las Vegas Sun, according to People, said that Pesci has been married three times.
Daniel Stern played Marv Murchins, the other criminal. Stern, too, appeared in the sequel. But the actor, for a good stretch, was known for his voice as narrator on The Wonder Years. After its cancellation in 1993, he stayed busy with on-camera work. This year, Stern started playing Eli Hobson on Apple TV+’s series For All Mankind. Stern is married to actress Laure Mattos. They have three children.
Catherine O’Hara played Kate McCallister. O’Hara had established herself as a fine comedian and actress on SCTV before Home Alone. She also was known for being in Beetlejuice. But O’Hara played the motherly role quite well and came back for the sequel, too. O’Hara has kept busy with her on-screen and voiceover work. She won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress due to her work as Moira Rose on Schitt’s Creek. Her voice helped create characters in The Nightmare Before Christmas, Chicken Little, and Elemental. O’Hara is married to Bo Welch and they have two boys.
John Heard played Peter McCallister. Besides appearing in Home Alone, Heard also had roles in Awakenings, Gladiator, and The Guardian. Heard also played a detective on The Sopranos. Sadly, he died back in 2017 at 71 years old. Heard had three children, two with his ex-wife Sharon Heard and one with actress Melissa Leo.
Devin Ratray Stayed Busy After Movie Premiered In 1990
Devin Ratray played Buzz McCallister. While solidifying his place in Home Alone lore as Kevin’s older brother, Ratray has done other work. He’s appeared in Blue Bloods, Better Call Saul, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Chicago Med. Ratray appeared in Jennifer Lopez’s movie Hustlers.
Kieran Culkin played Fuller McCallister. Yes, he’s Macauley’s brother. He also appeared in both Home Alone movies. In 1999, Culkin popped up on She’s All That. He also earned a Golden Globe nomination for his work on Igby Goes Down. Culkin played Roman Roy on Succession. That led to more Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. Culkin is married to Jazz Charton and has two children.
John Candy played Gus Polinski. Candy also established himself on SCTV before more fame and fortune, too. Gus, of course, is the “Polka King of the Midwest.” Candy appeared in other comedy movies like Uncle Buck, Cool Runnings, and Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Tragically, Candy died of a heart attack at 43 years old in 1994.
