Gary Oldman is quite an actor and has a track record to back it up. He also can change his looks to adapt to any role. Yet his recent looks might take your breath away. Oldman showed up at the 2024 Golden Globes Award ceremony with a full beard and some oversized sunglasses.
He definitely did not look like Winston Churchill here at all. Oldman walked the red carpet at the event, letting photographers take their pictures. What people appeared to be talking about most was his braided hair. Oldman told one press outlet that it was a French braid.
Why was he at the awards show? Oldman was nominated for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series. He’s been appearing in the Apple+ series Slow Horses since 2022. Oldman also has some big-screen time to his name recently as well. He played President Harry Truman in Oppenheimer.
Besides his hair, though, Oldman was looking snazzy in a traditional tux and bowtie. He previously won a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for his performance as Churchill in Darkest Hour.
He’s always keeping busy with one project ending and another one seemingly on its way. Still, the idea of slowing down to smell life’s roses does cross Oldman’s mind.
Gary Oldman Wouldn’t Mind Slower Pace
Oldman talked about this a little bit in a 2022 interview with The Sunday Times. “I’ve had an enviable career, but careers wane,” he said. “I do have other things that interest me outside of acting.” He expressed a desire to get to those other interests in his life beyond acting.
“When you’re young, you think you’re going to get ’round to doing all of them—read that book—then the years go by,” Oldman said. “I’m 65 next year (in 2023), 70 is around the corner. I don’t want to be active when I’m 80.”
For him, as he told The Sunday Times, making Jackson Lamb on Slow Horses as his final role would not mind him one bit. During a rough stretch in his life, Oldman was going through a divorce. But he also had to take care of his boys at the same time. It was during this time that high-paying roles in Batman and Harry Potter movies came along. Harry Potter fans know he played Harry’s godfather Sirius Black. For Batman, Oldman played Commissioner Jim Gordon.
Actor Has Great Ability To Change His Looks
Of course, these are just more roles for the chameleon-like actor to change his looks. He proves himself to be even more convincing with his ability to adjust his appearance.
But he’s quite happy to play Jackson Lamb. In an interview with Deadline, Oldman even intimated that he would not mind playing Lamb in other TV series related to the Mick Herron books.
“Listen, if they want us, sure,” he said. “It’s up to all the big people upstairs and the audience and obviously the viewership and what Apple what they say. But, yeah, I could see myself playing Jackson for the next how many years, yeah.”
Before playing Jackson again, though, Oldman might have to lose his braid. That’s so he can stay in character for the TV show.
