Actor John Schneider has been grieving the death of his wife this year, but he followed through on one of her very own ideas. Schneider, who is best known for his work on the CBS show The Dukes of Hazzard, fooled the judges on The Masked Singer. He did a good job of it until one of them guessed correctly that he was the Donut.
To his credit, though, Schneider’s vocals managed to keep the judges off their game for a bit. Guesses for the person in the Donut suit included Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdink. “Isn’t that crazy? That’s crazy,” he said. “What a great comparison, as a guy who sings, that they think I’m Tom Jones. That’s just wonderful. What greater compliment would there be?”
Those guesses were off base. It took Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg to come up with the right answer. Schneider sang You Are So Beautiful by Joe Cocker and Drift Away by Dobie Gray.
John Schneider Pays Tribute To His Late Wife
Schneider married Alicia Allain in 2019. Sadly, her health deteriorated and she died this year from cancer at 53 years old. He did say that being on The Masked Singer was Alicia’s idea. He also said that he dedicated his performances to her, according to Do You Remember?
“She said, next, it’s going to be ‘Masked Singer,’” Schneider said. “And I said, ‘Baby, babe, come on. Nobody knows I sing.’ And so I do think that she had a lot to do with it from heaven. I really do. I know that she enjoyed it.”
Schneider also said that he believed appearing on The Masked Singer helped provide some healing over his wife’s death.
“I urge you folks, if you’ve lost a spouse, don’t let them go away,” he said. “Talk about them next time you have a donut and coffee, talk about them.”
Music has a way of being a healing balm for many people. Schneider knows about its importance and urges grieving people to listen. While on The Masked Singer, Schneider also promoted his latest album, We’re Still Us. He said it’s not only a tribute to Alicia but to others who have suffered losses of people in their lives.
Actor-Musician Stays Busy With Work
“It’s a beautiful tribute to My Smile, my tribute to Alicia,” he said. “So I think they’ll really enjoy that. Especially if they’ve lost loved ones or if they’ve lost a spouse in particular, I think they’ll enjoy it. It’s very healing music.”
John Schneider has kept busy in recent months. He’s spent time promoting a movie, too. Longtime fans of the Dukes of Hazzard might want to see the show even rebooted. While a number of original cast members have died, Schneider, Tom Wopat, and Catherine Bach are still around. There’s no word if any of these three might want to be involved, either.
In the television world, sometimes it’s a “never say never” proposition. Classic TV shows are still beloved fo millions of people. And the TV landscape itself has changed since Bo and Luke Duke first climbed into the General Lee.
For Schneider, though, appearing on The Masked Singer allowed him to follow up on a commitment he’d made to his wife.
