Dex Carvey, the eldest son of Wayne’s World star Dana Carvey, has passed away at the age of 32 from an accidental drug overdose.
Law enforcement sources confirmed to TMZ that Dex passed away on Wednesday night. First responders rushed to a LA residence where Dex’s girlfriend called at around 10 p.m.
The media outlet was told that Dana Carvey’s son had locked himself inside one of the residence’s bathrooms and was unresponsive when discovered.
First responders attempted to revive Dex but were unable to do so. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Much like his father, Dex was an actor and had appeared in various film projects over the years. This includes Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser and Beyond the Comics.
TMZ further reports that Dex also performed stand-up comedy and had even opened for Dana in his 2016 Netflix special Straight White Male. Dex had done a 6-minute set.
While Dex’s cause of death has been already confirmed, an autopsy as well as toxicology tests need to be conducted to determine what drugs killed him. No further details have been revealed about Dex or the situation leading up to his death.
Dana and Paula Carvey Issue Statement Following the Death of Their Son Dex
Dana Carvey and his wife Paula issued a statement on Thursday, Nov. 16, confirming the unfortunate news about their son’s death. “Last night we suffered a terrible tragedy. Our beloved son, Dex, died of an accidental drug overdose. He was 32 years old.”
Dana and Paula Carvey shared that their son had “packed a lot” into those 32 years of life. “He was extremely talented at so many things – music, art, filmmaking, comedy, and pursued all of them passionately.”
The actor continued to point out that wasn’t an exaggeration to say that his son loved life as well as his family, friends, and girlfriend, Kaylee.
Carvey went on to describe Dex as being a beautiful person. “His handmade birthday cards are a treasure. We will miss him forever.”
Dana and Paula Carvey addressed those who going through somewhat the same situation. “To anyone struggling with addiction or who loves someone struggling with addiction, you are in our hearts and prayers.”
Dana and Paula have been married since 1983. They have two children, Dex (born in 1992) and Thomas (born in 1994). Thomas is also an aspiring comedian just like his father and brother. He appeared on Saturday Night Live as well as Straight White Male.
