Celine Dion’s Sister Reveals Singer Has Lost Control of Muscles Due to Rare Disorder

Singer Celine Dion is struggling to get back to performing form as she’s dealing with a rare disorder that affects the muscles in her body. That’s the word we’re getting from Claudette Dion, Celine’s sister. When will the Titanic songstress get back on the stage and perform? It’s up in the air at this point.

“She’s working hard, but she doesn’t have control over her muscles,” Claudette Dion, Celine’s sister, said according to Remind Magazine. “What breaks my heart is that she’s always been disciplined. She’s always worked hard. Our mother always told her, ‘You’re going to do it well, you’re going to do it properly.’”

While that may be Celine’s desire to do things properly and discipline, it’s just not happening fast enough for her. Reportedly, stiff person syndrome happens to be an autoimmune and neurological disorder that causes muscle spasms and rigid torso and limbs.

Celine Dion Dealing With Effects On Her Voice

Dion received this terrible diagnosis about a year ago. Back in May, the singer canceled the rest of her world tour. Will she be returning to the stage soon? No one knows at this point, not even Dion. What remains up in the air is even her ability to sing. This rare disorder can affect a person’s voice, the one thing Dion uses so powerfully for a living.

“It’s true that in both our dreams and hers, the goal is to return to the stage,” Claudette Dion said. “In what capacity? I don’t know.” Dion has sold millions of records around the world. She’s also had a stage residency in Las Vegas, too, which has allowed people to come and see her in one venue. There are some people who credit Celine Dion with keeping Las Vegas afloat during the recession.

Now, she faces one of the toughest battles in her life. Charlotte Dion talks some more about Celine’s own case of stiff person syndrome. “The vocal cords are muscles, and the heart is also a muscle,” she said. “This is what comes to get me. Because it’s one out of a million cases, the scientists haven’t done that much research because it didn’t affect that many people.

Dion Wrote Heartfelt Message To Her Fans

“Some people have lost hope because it’s an illness that isn’t well known,” she said. “If only you knew the number of phone calls the Foundation gets about Celine! People tell us they love her and they’re praying for her. She gets so many messages, presents, and blessed crucifixes.”

Back in May, Celine Dion, in announcing the cancellation of the rest of her Courage World Tour, wrote the following on Instagram. “I’m so sorry to disappoint all of you once again,” Dion wrote. “I’m working really hard to build back my strength, but touring can be very difficult even when you’re 100%. It’s not fair to you to keep postponing the shows, and even though it breaks my heart, it’s best that we cancel everything now until I’m really ready to be back on stage again. I want you all to know, I’m not giving up… and I can’t wait to see you again!”
