Less than a year after Bruce Willis’ family announced he was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, the actor’s daughter, Tallulah, has offered an update on his health condition.
During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show this week, Willis opened up about how her father is doing since being diagnosed.
“He is the same,” Bruce Willis’ daughter explained. “Which I think in this regard I’ve learned is the best thing you can ask for. I see love when I’m with him, and it’s dad and he loves me, which is really special.”
Tallulah also said that Bruce has a very aggressive cognitive disease. “[A] form of dementia that’s very rare,” she continued. When asked by Barrymore why the family was very open about the actor’s diagnosis, Tallulah stated, “Well, I think it’s twofold. On one hand, it’s who we are as a family, but also, it’s really important for us to spread awareness.”
Bruce Willis’ daughter further explained that the Willis family had no idea what his condition was prior to the diagnosis. After the doctors revealed the devastating news about his condition, the family did a ton of research. “If we can take something that we’re struggling with as a family to help other people, to turn it around to make something beautiful about it, that’s really special for us.”
Tallulah went on to add that she believes a really beautiful way for her to heal from the situation is to become an “archeologist” in her dad’s world. “To his little trinkets and doo-dads.”
Bruce Willis’ Daughters Previously Praised Their Stepmom Emma For Raising Awareness of Their Father’s Condition
Just after Bruce Willis’ wife Emma made an appearance on Today in September, the actor’s daughters quickly praised their stepmom for being a champion when it comes to supporting their father.
People reported that in an Instagram Story, Scout Willis declared that she could not be more proud of her stepmom for stepping into the public eye to share their family’s story in order to spread awareness for her father’s condition. “Emma, you are such a champion for this cause,” Scout stated. “And you inspire me EVERY SINGLE F—ING DAY with your bravery and deep deep loving. Your courage is moving mountains.
Emma also reposted the special message from Scout and told Bruce Willis’ daughter that she loves her. Tallulah then stated, “So proud of my family.”
Emma said on Today that she’s learning dementia is hard on everyone. “It’s hard on the person diagnosed. It’s also hard on the family. And that is no different for Bruce or myself or our girls. When they say this is a family disease, it really is.”
