Bob Marley’s Children: Everything We Know About His 12 Kids

Bob Marley left an imprint of reggae music that still rings through the hearts and souls of humanity. His 12 children keep his spirit alive. Despite dying from malignant melanoma in 1981, Marley’s message of service to the world goes forward.

Yes, Bob Marley had 12 kids during his lifetime. Five of those 12 he raised with his widow, Rita Marley. Some of them followed their father’s footsteps into the world of music. All of them, though, do their best to give back in some way to the world. It’s part of their lives all the time.

A renewed interest in Marley has picked up ever since Bob Marley: One Love, a biopic about his life, opened up on Feb. 14. While five of his 12 children are connected to Rita, the others are from romances with other women. Cedella, Ziggy, and Stephen Marley were born with Rita as their mom, Today reports.

Bob also adopted two of her children, Sharon and Stephanie. Rita Marley also had a sixth child, Serita Stewart, who was born in 1985.

Bob Marley’s Daughter Has Three Grammy Wins

Sharon, born in 1964, has won three Grammys in her musical career. She worked with sister Cedella and brothers Ziggy and Stephen. Bob Marley’s children are amazing. His first Grammy was for best reggae recording for Conscious Party in 1989. Then, in 1990, they won the same award for their song One Bright Day. Let’s go to 1998 when the trio won Best Reggae Album for Fallen Is Babylon. In 2024, Sharon released her LP Steppah back in 2024.

Cedella scored three Grammys with her siblings. She helped produce the biopic about her father.

Ziggy also served as a producer on the biopic. He won the first three Grammys with his siblings. Then he went on to win five more Grammys, four for best reggae album. For him, Bob’s legacy is all about “being a good human (and) being … someone who is of service to others.”

Stephen is on tour with little brother Damian. For Stephen, his first Grammys were with his siblings and he also has five more.

Stephanie is a graduate of Western University in London, Ontario, Canada. She got a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Also, Stephanie worked with the Bob Marley Museum and the Bob Marley Foundation. Right now, Stephanie is the director of her mother’s organization, the Rita Marley Foundation.

Robbie Marley Mixes Artistry With Poetry

In 1972, Bob fathered Rohan Marley with Janet Hunt and Robbie Marley with Pat Williams. Robbie is “a graphic artist who also writes poetry,” according to Instagram. He appeared in the 2011 TV series Marley Africa Roadtrip as himself. Rohan was a football player at the University of Miami, then spent time with the Canadian Football League’s Ottawa Rough Riders. These days, he’s a founder of Marley Coffee in 2009 and works with 1Love, the family charitable organization.

In 1973, he fathered Karen Marley through Janet Bowen. Karen owns a clothing collection and has family members act as models sometimes. Just brilliant stuff from Bob Marley’s children.

Then, in 1975, he had Julian Marley with Lucy Pounder. Julian won a Grammy for the best reggae album in 2024 for Colors Of Royal. He also has released several albums in recent years, too.

In 1976, Ky-Mani Marley joined the family through Marley and Jamaican table tennis champion Anita Belnavis. Ky-Mani is an artist. Now, he was nominated for the best reggae album at the 2002 Grammys for Many More Roads. He lost to his brother Damian.

Then, in 1978, Bob fathered Damian Marley through Cindy Breakspeare, who was a jazz musician, model, and Miss World 1976. Damian has five Grammy wins, four are for best reggae album. Earlier this month, Damian released his new single Quien Dijo Miedo with Kevin Florez and Kingston Florez.

Finally, in 1981, the year Bob Marley died, he had Makeda Jahnesa through Yvette Crichton. Makeda runs a cannabis business in New Jersey. She’s also a DJ and a motivational speaker, according to her Instagram.
