Two of the most well-known ladies of television, Betty White and Joan Rivers, enjoyed a few laughs as they exchanged backhanded compliments during a hilarious 1982 interview. 

The clip of the interview resurfaced on Instagram earlier this month and showed the hilarious personalities that both White and Rivers. The episode, which aired in December 1982, featured Betty White as a guest while Joan Rivers was hosting The Tonight Show. “Just another simple dress, Betty,” Rivers greeted White. To which, White responded, “Oh, well, I would like to say you look lovely, but unfortunately…” Rivers added while cracking up laughing, “I don’t.” 

The hilarious ladies continued their discussion and White shared that she had been struggling due to not having any heat in her Los Angeles home due to a recent freezing rainstorm. “It is just, it’s been freezing, and you don’t realize the number of things you do electrically,” the actress explained. The situation also happened a little over a year after her husband Allen Ludden passed away. She jokingly admitted that she was also “very lonely” during the situation. As the ladies and the audience were laughing, Rivers stated she was planning to give White D-Cell batteries for Christmas. 

Both hilarious women were known for their great sense of humor and ability to have a fun discussion on air. Joan Rivers passed away in September 2014 at the age of 81 and Betty White died in her sleep in December 2021, just weeks before her 100th birthday.

Betty White Said She Was ‘So Lucky’ to be in Good Health During Her Final Interview 

As she was preparing to celebrate her 100th birthday, Betty White opened up about her amazing life during her final interview with People. “I’m so lucky to be in such good health and feel so good at this age,” White stated at the time. “It’s amazing.”

Betty White also shared that being “born a cockeyed optimist” was actually the key to her positive nature. “I got it from my mom, and that never changed. I always find the positive.”

However, White admitted that her diet was definitely not what was keeping her life. “I try to avoid anything green,” she jokingly declared. “I think it’s working.” 

With a career being decades-long, Betty White was known for various roles. This included her time on The Golden Girls, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and Hot in Cleveland as well as various game shows such as Password, Match Game, and The $25,000 Pyramid.
