Sharon Osbourne Rips Into Rock Hall of Fame Over Ozzy Solo Snub

Sharon Osbourne Rips Into Rock Hall of Fame Over Ozzy Solo Snub

Another Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony is in the books, and once again, Ozzy Osbourne wasn’t part of the chosen class.

The most recent ceremony took place on Nov. 3, and it included singers such as Sheryl Crow, Don Cornelius, Willie Nelson, and Chaka Khan. While all the inductees were deserving, Sharon Osborne has had enough of her husband’s annual snub.

“They know that Ozzy deserves to be there,” she told The Adam Carolla Show last month. “They know he’s been a solo artist. You’ve gotta be doing it for 25 years. He’s been 43 years as a solo artist.”

Ozzy Osbourne was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of Black Sabbath in 2006, but even that was a long time in the making. The group was nominated eight times before finally making the cut. In 1999, after three of those failed tries, Ozzy publically told the organization to stop considering them.

“Just take our name off the list,” he said in a statement. “Save the ink. Forget about us. The nomination is meaningless because it’s not voted on by the fans. It’s voted on by the supposed elite of the industry and the media, who’ve never bought an album or concert ticket in their lives, so their vote is totally irrelevant to me.”

Sharon Osbourne Won’t ‘Beg’ Hall of Fame Members to Vote For Ozzy

This time around, it’s Sharon who is fuming, though. Ozzy dropped his first solo record, Blizzard of Oz, in 1980. That means he has been eligible as a solo inductee since 2005. Furthermore, the singer has sold almost 100 million albums as a lone performer.

“So where is he?” Sharon asked. “Induct him.”

Sharon noted that the Hall of Fame has a board, and each board member writes a list of their choice inductees each year. For Ozzy to get a proper nomination, he’d have to be on more than half the lists. Carolla asked if there is a way to lobby the organization to get the famed Grammy winner in the door, and Sharon said she’d never do that.

“I will never beg,” she admitted. “And I will never ask for favors. I’ve never asked anyone for a favor. So, my thing is fuck you if you don’t realize that somebody really deserves to be here. And you don’t recognize that? Then, see ya.”
